Spec me a knife

Ha ha...yep, I'm serious.

I've got a pile of logs outside my cabin that need splitting.

(cold beer + fire = :))

Only at weekends ;)

lives in the woods? Check
Has a cabin? Check
creepy axe man chopping wood? Check

Has a beard, plaid shirt and wears a baseball cap? Possible check?
Axe murders innocent teenage girls that venture into the woods?

I use it for opening mail. Honest.

Opinel do some rather nice simple knives and they're available from Heinnie as well but the little Spyderco knife that Benihana linked to sounds like it might be better for your purposes.

just shout some abuse at some youths in gangs and I'm sure they'll offer you a knife. Just choose the best one ;)

Just be aware that if you get stopped and searched by the police for whatever reason and they find a locking knife on you, you will be done for carrying an offensive weapon .

You haven't said what its for, but if its for very light work, such as cutting through tape to open boxes etc. id say go for a small knife that doesn't lock, to be on the safe side.

The Spyderco Bug posted above looks to be perfect actually, says it has no lock.

No pun intended but wouldn't a knife with a lock be safer? :p

This is what I use at work. Great little knife and very tough. The steel isn't the best but its so easy to sharpen, not having a belly to the blade.

I got it ages ago when knives were allowed on ebay. There was a seller called flames and knives that shipped from the USA. Think I paid about £12 for it. That site is a total rip-off .

No ****, that looks just like my new axe! :D

My bad, I think it was actually a hatchet :(

"I like to carry it, you never know when your going to need it. A situation may come up say for example, someone has been drinking, and about to drive a loved one home, then I'd like to know I have it. Not to kill, no. Just to maim. Take a little off the shoulder. Swish! The elbow. Slash! Shave a little meat off the old kneecap. Fowap! Ooooo! You got both kneecaps? I like to keep mine razor sharp. Sharp enough you can shave with it. Why I've been known to circumcise a gnat."

While there is the risk of this happening if you have good reason to carry a locking knife you should be fine. A friend I work with has a small locking knife which his wife got him for Christmas and he was worried about this, he's in his late 50's, early 60's. I asked him when the last time the police stopped him and searched him and he told me never. I carry a small locking knife to work daily and so long as you're not a clown the police don't really have any reason and are very unlikely to happen to stop and search you.

Personally I think the bug is a bit too small, my recommendation would be one of the small Opinel knives as they are cheap and take a great edge.
