Hi guys,

Christmas is coming up and we are looking into getting my little sister a laptop...
She’s always on the internet, listens to lots of music and she would like a built in web cam.

I was wondering if you guys could recommend any good ones for the price specified.

Thanks in advance

Can I ask why ?, what will your sister be doing on the laptop ?, the atom processor will be able to cope with any of today's multimedia tasks, music/hd video (720P), surfing the net etc, it's very light, a nice compact size, has an astonishing battery life, some people are reporting up to 7 hours in silent mode, also can I ask why you want Vista ?

Here have a read through this thread, http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17924160.

Also I can tell you girls/woman really do tend to favour the netbooks becuase of their compact size and lightness, if you want a core duo and Vista for £350 you'll only be able to afford a very basic model and it won't be a netbook, it'll have a much larger chassis and be much heaver and no doubt have very poor battery life.

£361 gets you a Dell Inspiron 1525 with a Celeron Dual Core CPU, 2GB of RAM, 160GB HDD and Vista Home Premium. Should be plenty for what she wants.

For £350 you're not going to get much better. It's a Dual Core at least so it won't feel too slow, and it doesn't look like the system is going to be used for anything demanding anyway. Seems like it would suit her needs well.

i feel the same way voice, i feel it seems silly to buy a £300 ish netbook when for about £50 more you do get a more powerful and bigger laptop. that said the netbooks are good machines. just i dont see why i'd get one over a bigger 15" dual core celeron with 2GB ram and 160GB hdd... other than the ~6 battery life.

wonder if it will even boot?

may as well say £340 will get you an ispiron mini 12, atom processor, 1gb ram, 40gb hard drive and ubuntu 8.04 installed.

But that evidently isn't what the OP wants. The Dual Core Inspiron will suit her fine, and with a bit of tweaking, the fact that it's even a Celeron shouldn't matter much.
