Ladies and gents, my work laptop has died. This laptop spends a lot of time in a dock but does come on the road with me sometimes and it needs to be small/lightweight for that reason.

It's solely used for work purposes and doesn't need any gaming capabilities whatsoever.

The now dead laptop is 7 years old and it's served me well. I barely turned it off. The MOSFET has exploded on the mainboard and doesn't look like replacing it will be easy.

Requirements:

Lightweight and portable
Circa £1k excluding VAT
Native x86

Hit me...

Asus Expertbook here, OLED flip/touch screen aswell... the OLED is really nice to have. The touch screen..I keep forgetting it's touch screen so that's not a feature I'd pay for, unless you really know you'll make use of it.

I think mines a 13.9" screen, so it's really slim and portable. Crap for productivity but then you'd dock it or plug it into a bigger screen for that sort of thing.

I've taken a plunge on an Honor Magicbook Pro 14. £916 excl VAT, 285H, 32GB, 1TB, OLED. The outgoing laptop is a Huawei Matebook X and this is very much the same thing with an Honor badge instead. I'll report back once I've received it and tried it out.

Had the Honor on the go for a few days and no issues to report. It is slightly larger than my outgoing Matebook X yet weighs a little less.

My only complaint is the 100W charger doesn't have a sliding earth pin to compact down the size of the charger. The earth pin is metal and I assume this is why it can't slide. Shame, because it causes a bulge in my laptop bag. I will just use the old laptop charger as that's still 65W and plenty enough.

I did want to look at the Asus options but they are either quite expensive or not in stock. The Honor has been a great buy for the specs and price. If this one lasts another 7 years then I won't be complaining at all.
