Off on a trip to the 'Ring in a couple of weeks and I really need a large back pack that is suitable for the bike and also some waterproofs as no doubt it will rain at some point.

Just wondering what every had and if they can recommend anything?

Don't really wanna spend any more than £100ish if possible.

Thanks :)

cheers for the link, they look good.

What do people think of these back packs?

30L Version - Clicky

50L Version - Clicky

I need to fit 4 days worth of clothes, 1 pair of trainers, toiletries and odd & sods. Not sure which size would be best or if the 50L would be to big for the bike?

I went with THIS 1 piece oversuit. Packs into a little bag.

Do you have a pillion seat that would take a rollbag with cargo net strapping it down? HG do a waterproof 50L one for under a tenner :)

I do have a pillion seat actually, not a bad idea there! I will have a look in HG. Thanks for the idea mate.

I've done 120mile journeys on a 125cc using a backpack, and it isn't the most comfiest thing to do. Ended up leaning backwards so as to rest the bottom of the backpack on the pillion seat to take the strain off my back. Would recommend a tail bag instead!

Enjoy racing!

I used some large helly hanson waterproof trousers which my dad got with a jacket. They fit right over my textiles and never leak a drop :)

Edit: I also just use my nike school back and have done over 400 miles on my shadow and bandit in one trip and never experenced any discomfort. Just make sure its loose enough to rest on the rear seat a little if its got heavy things in it.

Tail pack or tank bag is the way to go for longer distances. I use a Deuter cycling back pack for day to day in London commuting and it's taken a battering but it's awkward on longer trips.

I've got a hein gerik tank bag I only use occasionally for longer trips so the tank doesn't really get scratched, it'd easily take enough stuff for a long weekend away. Also bought a Kriega US30 which is ace but a bit over budget, once you fit it you can forget about it and it's totally waterproof.

Agreed, especially if your rucksack is packed with loads of stuff.

Check if Lidl/Aldi have any deals at the moment, they sell some pretty decent tail/tank bags and waterproofs for not a lot of cash.

Mmmm, I'm looking for exactly the same as the OP, and thought great, but just seen that one opened fully... look like it'll be sitting on my exhaust...

Infact, wonder how HOT the can actually gets and wonder if I could just rest the tail bag on the outer exhaust can???

EDIT: hold on, think I've got muddled here, is the RT60 all of the below or is it just the middle and you can buy the two side pannier types seperatley or does it have this whole thing?

The RT60 is just the main tail bag, it doesn't include the panniers. 60 liters is massive though, you should be able to get everything in there for a pretty long trip.

I very much doubt you could safely rest the paniers on your exhaust. There is a bloke at work with a 996 and you can see the remnants of his wifes knickers on his Termignoni's where the can melted right through his soft panniers :D

When I toured down south last year a guy we went with had the 50L HG rollbag strapped to the pillion seat of a K7 GSX-R1000 with a cargo net and 2 bungee cords. Went the 5 days without budging :)

Looks like I'll be going just the middle 60ltrs then... hard to fathom how big or small 60ltrs is. I'm going on a trip to Europe for two weeks next July... will have to do a smaller one to get a feel for how much gear you actually need me thinks.

I bought a 44L backpack (which was a lot bigger than I expected) to take stuff when I go to visit my old man in Cornwall, I could fit a weeks worth of clothes in it and few others bits. Problem with it was due to riding an R6 the riding position meant I couldn't tip my head back with it on so I had to strap it to the rear seat!

This was the end result to give you some idea of size -> http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/Phoenix1982/R6/?action=view&current=IMAG0067.jpg

I assume that worked ok though? So you got a weeks worth of gear in there, so a 60ltr, should do me for 2 weeks then, as I'm a minimal kind of person anyway tbh... and we'll be camping so can always wash some stuff etc... Mmmm, that 60ltr one is looking good... some bungies and strapping should make it solid me thinks.
