Hi All,

I need to get a new car and while I was planning on getting a Jaguar XF I’ve decided it’d be better just to get a Mondeo instead and put the savings I’d make elsewhere.

I do around 19,000 miles a year so a diesel would be the sensible choice.

What would be the best engine to go for? Is it the 2L diesel or is there a better one available? I’ve got around £10-12k to spend.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Owning a Mk4 2.2 TDCi Mondeo I'd say if you require an economical Mondeo then get the 2.0, the 163 BHP 2.0 should be within your budget now. The 2.0 should offer you about 10mpg over the 2.2.

My 2.2 gives between 45-50mpg on a run whereas the 2.0 should have you approaching 60mpg.

I agree with Firemansam I own a 58 plate Mondeo 2.2 TDCI Titanium X its quick but it does like a drink mid to low 40's is the best I have had on motorway with cruise on at 75mph

I do get depressed reading threads like this when I see what kind of economy the 'quick' diesels can achieve. (I have a 2.5T Titanium X that never gets over 22.5mpg!)

Bit of an update.

Just paid £12k for a 59 Plate 2.2L Titanium X Sport with 27k on the clock.
Has everything inside including the touch screen sat nav so win for me.

Seems about market price tbh.

Will pick it up next week sometime!

Excellent! Enjoy it. A very well specc'ed Titanium X sport is a great place to be in.
