Spec me a mota

I`ve always liked the look of the BMW estates, 3 series Touring a possibility, tho nothing says middle class potential tory voter more

This is a good choice but you must be very careful with your budget - many of the cars you'll find for sale will be the previous model. This is very old now and came out over a decade ago. This is a very bad way to spend your budget - they are fundamentally the same as cars that cost half that. Instead, you should look at the current model, introduced in 2019. It is a considerably better car in every way in my view and well worth the money you have to spend.

Cheers, good insight, I had twigged that the range hd changed about then , not up to speed on the "sweet spot" models/variants tho.

I'd try and get some classic or American muscle car.

Or a pick-up like a Hilux but a pimped out one.

Otherwise I'd just keep the car you have.

Thought I`d update this thread as I have reached the end of my overthought car buying/selection process...................anyways so I went a wee bit leftfield and settled on a compromise car, I got a 1 Series BMW 118i petrol as below.

Whilst this was an ok car and relatively nice to drive it was a little underwhelming and left me struggling to accept I no longer had the mid range oomph of my previous Golf.
Eventually this bugged me so much I made a change and got the Golf below. Fair to say I`m much happier albeit I`ll probably be the oldest Gti owner in the UK lol.

Car is fantastic to drive, probably TOO fast for my needs but it certainly is huge fun to drive & with care easily returns 40mpg , I travelled to Epsom to get it (I wanted Moonstone Grey & winter pack) and on the journey home it averaged 42mpg.
Only negative is the software/infotainment system, commonly lots of issues but so far mine have been minor with a few random bongs & random reboots. It's VW approved so I`m gonna chase them on it and see what happens etc.
I think a lesson from this is to buy from your heart instead of your head, I was purchasing for what I perceived to be an old guy, which I am technically but this Gti is a much better fit.

I’d have gone for the 1 Series but, a bigger engine, a 118i was never going to inspire anything other than boredom…

But, so long as you’re happy with your new choice, all good! :)

I did consider the 128 but couldn't quite resist the Golf having owned 2 before. BMW servicing costs too are eye watering.
