Hi guys,

I am looking for a netbook that meets the following criteria:

Good quality & size of keyboard (I will do a lot of word processing on it)
Good touchpad ergonomics or touchscreen
Battery life: 6 hours+
Capable of playing movies
Upgradeable to 2GB RAM
As light as possible, closer to 1kg than to 1.5kg if possible
Under £300, £250 even better :)

I hope that's not asking too much!

Thanks a lot for your ideas.

Netbooks arent great at playing movies. If you go Ion for HD, you'll loose battery life.

Doing word processing, you'll prefer 1366x768.

All in all, you may be better off looking for a 13'' CULV laptop, which will offer GMA 4500 HD playback, Win 7, 1366x768p screen, all day battery life, and 3GB (which you'll have to add buying a netbook), for around £350. IMO, the extra £50 is well worth it over a Ion netbook. Best bang for bucks is the Acer Travelmate 8371 (with HD 4330, or without), and the Acer 3810TZG. Prices fluctuate, seems to be harder to find for £350 now, but after Christmas, could be better deals around.

Movies isn't a massive priority - the main thing is the word processing, but I do want to be able to watch a movie on it once in a few months when I'm on a plane/train.

Weight is an issue for me, hence I want to avoid laptops...

Netbooks are really good with battery gives you 5 to 6 hours. No doubt. Good for word processing. My sister owns it, now she doesn't even use her laptop. Its Packard bell, it was 1.6 atom, 1 GB 200 GB, 10 Inch. Price around £230.

I haven't seen any 2 GB ones out there around £300? I see one around £400. It was ASUS. 7 Hours battery.

I am sorry if I have confused you. May be in few months time, they will be 2 GB around £300.

Hey man, thanks for this.

I don't insist on it having 2GB by default, I can always buy a 2GB module and upgrade it myself. 1GB is fine, so long as it can be upgraded to 2GB in the future - that's what I meant.

netbooks are good what you have said! above. it will all do that.

2 sad things which I come with:
* Doesn't have CD ROM. (if there was one, I would easily downgrade to xp and use it)
* You will be using Norton Netbook Internet Security. It will hog the cpu :) Not all the Security supports Netbook. There are only few.

Otherwise I would really purchase netbook. Well they are small and made for long battery life. There will be cons

Its good laptop, Lots of good comments on this one. Found one good one!

The Good:
Larger HD 11.6" screen with good clarity and backlighting a joy to use over a cramped 10"
Accelerated NVidia Ion graphics
Easy to upgrade memory to 3Gb
Quite loud and clear Altec Lansing Speaker strip on the front
HD Video support (inc 1080p to external display) - WMV play especially well
HDMI Port
Attractive design
Respectable speed

The Bad:
Touchpad is annoying
Atom 270 struggles on CPU intensive tasks
Flash Support still waiting proper Ion Acceleration fronm Adobe - Adobe AIR based BBC iPlayer still stutters, even on SD
Battery is 6 hours at very best, 5 hours common. not a patch here on a Samsung N140m but a more compelling netbook to live with on a day in, day out basis.
Hewlett Packard/Compaq UK still won't ship with Windows 7 - Insane descision
As with all netbooks, need to purchase an external DVD - a Samsung SE-804 for £40 good choice.

Overall:
A more usable netbook than a 10" model, with HD support, HDMI output and an attracive design with an appealing price point.
