Spec me a new build (please)

Sorry for making another thread. The other day I created one asking if I should upgrade my pc or buy a new monitor. I have decided to go for a new PC as at some stage I would like to get a Vive/Rift so a new pc would be more beneficial than a new 144hz monitor.

My budget is around £8-1000 and currently I have:
i7 950 @ 3.6
12GB Ram
256GB 840 (plus some storage drives)
MSI 970
Xonar DX
FT0B Case

I am wondering what I should get with this budget. My case, although pretty decent is also large and bulky, I am tempted to get something a bit smaller. I am also wondering if I should get a 1070 or keep the 970 and spend the difference on rest of build. A build with a new case/graphics card and one keeping case/graphics could would allow me to see where extra money can be spent or saved. I have peripherals so don't need them or an OS/monitor.
I also can't decide if 5820k or a 6700k would be better? I don't pay too much attention to tech until it comes to around new build time.

You need to overclock the 5820k to about 4.4 ghz to match the 6700k performance but the 5820k has 6 cores not relevant for gaming yet but . More than 2 gpus the 5820k would be my choice as it has more pci lanes.

You can reuse most of your hardware with cash to spare but is there any thing you want in the build ?

5820k build, you will neeed a cpu cooler with k chips what do you have ?

If going for the Corsair remember it has CPU cooler clearance of 120mm so either a smaller air cooler or an AIO water cooler would be required (only mentioning because OCUK don't :) )
 
That case is pretty nice. I have a AIO corsair jobby on this, I can't remember which now. I did buy it quite a long time ago, I think it is a h50. I would only have the one graphics card so the 6700k would probably be the better choice then if 6 cores won't make much difference for gaming. I may have to get a bigger SSD as 256 is cutting it kind of close so maybe add a 500gb one as they aren't too expensive now are they?
 
I have gone for the fastest m2 drive which is basically a lightning fast ssd (look at the read write speeds) , you could go for a normal 500gb ssd which will save you £50 ish. Also faster ram

Is there much performance difference when actually using those M2 drives? I understand they are really quick potentially but I have read on here a few times that in actual use they aren't all that much different to a regular SSD. What would I need cooler wise for that? Any ideas what I could get for the parts of my current pc that I won't carry over?
 
To be honest i have not got an m2 drive so i cant really say what diffrence in real world performance compared to a SSD.

As for cooler you could get an aio water cooler but you already have one it mite fit or you could get a 240mm one that will fit in the front of the case. You would just use reverse airflow, back to front.

Would there be any significant difference between the h100i and a h80i v2/gt (these are the same right?). Just looking at what I can fit inside my current case if I decided to keep that.
 
I have a Silverstone FT02. This morning I have been messing around with getting a new case and keeping my current one. To see what it would cost and what is possible. I am not opposed to getting a new case, this FT02 is massive but it is also a pretty darn good case (still seem to go for a lot of money). Also considering stretching my budget and getting a 1080. Once I sold my current pc parts I am not keeping, and few other bits n pieces it still works out to the same budget I proposed in op.
