Hello

Looking for some advice.

My PC is about 6 years old now and the graphics card has just blown.

I'm a bit reluctant to go all-out and buy a new rig but at the same time I don't want to spend a fortune on a GPU.

My current setup is:

  • Intel Core i5 3570K 3.40GHz @ 4.50GHz
  • 16GB RAM
  • AMD HD 7970 (RIP)
I'm tempted to go for something like a 1060, but wanted to see what others think?

Mainly play games like Rocket League and Overwatch, and played the Black Ops beta which ran at like 50-60fps on my old card.

Thanks in advance :)

1060 6GB is probably the minimum you can get away with to notice any sort of real improvement over a 7970.

A used 980Ti is also another option with a similar level of performance.

Why not RX580 or better RX680 next week?
(assuming rumours are right)

My HD 7970 died a while ago and replaced it with a second hand RX480 8gb. I've not used it much yet but a few months ago I had to give up on Wolfenstein II The New Colossus by the second level as the frame rates were pretty shocking. I'm now getting a constant 60fps (capped) so if all games benefit by the same amount I'll be happy.

Apparently the 580 is a little quicker than the 480 and the 1060 6gb is very similar - better on some games but the AMD cards are generally better on IDtech games afaik..?

Oh, i7 2600 @ stock btw so I guess your cpu is better too?
