Spec me a new GFX card

I can't really comment on the 3850s but if they're good then it sounds like a plan. Seriously plump for the 512MB model though, you'll regret playing Crysis on a 256MB graphics card. :(

For under £200 though the 8800GT plays Crysis very nicely, Once you draw closer to £100 though it sucks.

Edit: Not sure if it's due to older drivers or whatever but this graph makes the 3850, and indeed the rest of the current ATI lineup, look terrible when it comes to playing Crysis. That said isn't there an ATI hotfix now?

Yeah no card is perfect with crysis but they are running that at high detail levels I would asume that medium would give you a fairly constant fps of 30+ at 1280x1024. note how the 3850 kicks the crap out of the 8600gts though.

ATI has had a few bad years but what they have got very well recently is the x1950pro and the HD3850/HD3870 and to a lesser extent the HD2600 range but not really for gaming performance

Cheepest there by almost £20 warrenty isn't great but it never is with ATI cards anyway. (I hear visiontech do lifetime though... never see them though...) Just no ETA on those cards maybe check with OCUK as to when they expect to have them. A lot of the 38x0 cards seem to have failed to apear as of yet... its the 8800gt all over again. Maybe better stocks mid january one would hope. Anyone know the state of afairs?

some daft recommendations being chucked about.

An 8600gt is not good value for money.

If you want any kind of reasonable frame rates on crysis you'll need to be looking at..

£75 = 2nd hand .. x1950xt 512mb
£110 = 2nd hand 8800gts 320mb
£170 = brand new 8800gt

Yes but he said no DX9 cards, which means your sub £110 suggestion is also a daft suggestion as well, and I wouldn't want to try Crysis on a 320MB graphics card at any resolution.

An 8800GT is going to be the best option but it's probably well out of budget.

I've just downloaded the COD4 demo and it looks fantastic even with this 6800, only minor lag, how do I get it to show the FPS, is it that cgi_draw whatever as it was in COD2 ?

thanks
