right guys due to my poorly spin point ide dieing last night i now need a new drive

i've now moved over to an asrock dual sata board (sata 1 &2 ???) having never used sata before i want something pretty easy to chuck in and go and possibly under 60 quid as i've already got my main maxtor drive (paltry 160gig ide)

also can anyone show me a piccy of a sata power connecter think i have one funny little blocky rectangular thing yeah :)

hmm not whats on my psu anyway

its a little rectangular one with 6 wires going into it and 6 little conectors top and bottom

You can easily get standard molex to sata power connector convertors, thats if the SATA drive you get doesn't have SATA and Legacy power on it, some do.

What size drive are you looking for?

If I was you, I'd probably get a Maxtor drive, good reliabilty, not too loud, general good performance.

200gb DiamondMax 6V200E0.

Its on there.

About £50 pre delivery.
And I would steer well clear of Maxtor Diamondmax drives or any of their consumer range until Seagate sort them out.

Western Digital and Hitachi drives all have both SATA and molex connectors. All other companies only use SATA power. I'd go for Hitachi personally as they are great drives but the new Seagate 7200.10's are THE best 7200rpm drives at the moment. I'd just pickup a SATA > molex power converter which is REALLY cheap (£1-2).

got the same board here with a samsung spin point 250gb sata 2 and had no issues, its also very quiet, you need to put the sata drivers on a floppy and press F6 to instal them at the start of the windows install
