spec me a new HDD please

If you want quiet AND reliable, seagate is the only way to go. Samsung's are flakey from what I've seen, a bit hit and miss.

Seagate has a reputation for reliability and low noise HDU manufacture.

I suggest the 7200.10 200GB minimum as this uses a completely new technology called perpendicular recording. The 7200.10 series from Seagate makes it THE besy HDU 7200rpm on the market bar none (at the moment).

I've used Samsung in my time and never had trouble with them I find them to be very quiet.
I wasn't referring to noise ;).

Samsung's are indeed quiet, but if you need reliability also, then there is only one place to go - also perp tech far is so far superior to all other 7200rpm hdu's, I see no reason for buying anything else.

Having used both, I do prefer the Samsung drives for the quality of the drives aswell as them being renoun for being almost inaudible funtioning.

Either way you go Seagate & Samsung are very solid HDD's.

Had my 4 250GB Hitachi SATA II drives in RAID0 for the last 18 months with no issues whatsover, not once....

Dunno how much they cost now but they were very reasonable even back then.

Most hard drive manufactureres provide a DOS based utility for turning the noise down on the drive at the cost of transfer rates.

On mine its called "Acoustic managment"

So noise isn't really an issue with any drive.
