I'm looking to get a new HDD because my teeny 500GB drive just wont cut it with the size of games these days *glares angrily at GTAV*. It seems that 3TB is about the best price/storage ratio so I'll probably go for that size unless there is an amazing deal on something bigger. I really don't want any green/eco/low RPM power saving rubbish, because that will slow things down on what will probably end up being my main games drive for a while.

As for an actual make/model I'm not too sure. I want something that is fast as HDDs go, quiet and most importantly something that is very reliable. A quick look around the internet suggests that the WD black is the one to go for, but some input from you guys would be wonderful before I make the plunge.

The WD Blacks do seem to be well respected, but I haven't had one myself so can't say.

All I will say is to avoid Seagate harddrives. Seagate really some content with making spinning rust.

WD Black for a high performance mechanical drive.

Seagate Barracuda are similar performance and often cheaper, but much less reliable and with worse warranty service when it fails (hence the cheaper price).

As said WD Black. Similar build quality to WD Raid drives, and dual on board processors for performance.

WD black drives from the past were noisy, however I have a couple of current 1TB single platter drives that are quiet.

Cheers for the advice :) I'll grab a WD 3TB black as soon as someone releases a benchmark of GTAV to confirm its actually been optimised for PC
