Please can you help me with buying a new PC?

I want it to include the following:

Q9550
DDR3 - 4gb (2x2gb) of some kind?
GTX 280
Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB SATA-II 32MB (maybe 2 VelociRaptor 300GB raid 0)
PSU what watt?
P45 or X48 Mobo?
Vista 64 ulti

I will be using it for pure gaming and will spend around £1000.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

um, why do you want to get a Q9550 - OK you've got a big budget, but there a lot better ideas out there, you don't need to get the most expensive to get the best for gaming. Are you going to be overclocking? What screen size will you be using. Are you playing the latest FPS's?♠
are you ever going to put 2x graphics in?
and why do you need DDR3?

Its power has a nice cheap price tag. Extreme are too pricey for me.

Are you going to be overclocking?
I maybe overclocking when i learn more about it. TBH i don' know enough so i wouldn't attempt to OC yet but eventually i think i will experiment with it.

What screen size will you be using.
Will be using 22"/24" screen so the best resolutions possible i hope.

Are you playing the latest FPS's?
Yes

are you ever going to put 2x graphics in?
I'd be happy to see how just 1x GFX card goes. It would be nice to have the option to upgrade to 2x GFX cards if i ever wanted to do that.

why do you need DDR3?
Because i want a future proof system thats gonna last me that i can upgrade without having to buy a new mobo.

With that system you don't need DDR3, DDR2 will be fine. Good cpu choice, and good gfx choice for a one card setup.

PSU wise, I would go with a corshair 620w.

P45Q has some good writeups, and especially liked on this forum in regards to overclocking.

edit: regards to future proofing. Whole new system coming out soon, so you will have to upgrade most things anyway, e.g. mobo, cpu.

I think what Meloco is saying is, if you've got that much money to spend if you can hold onto it for a month you'll probably find a better buy or a bigger range. I think its the new intel chips coming out (someone correct me?)

When I asked why you were choosing he Q9550 i wasn't expecting you to get a more expensive one, but more wondering why you wanted that over say the Q6600. OK so its getting a little old now, but it overclocks without any effort to 3.0Ghz and memory still on 800MHz. I've just been playing Crysis warhead on mine with my 8800GTX and looks fantastic.
If you're wanting to play on a 24" then the GTX280 is a good call, anything lower then I would look at the HD4870's or even the HS4870x2's (that would be great on a 24" ) though there is a lot of talk about the noise and temps. And well if its crysis/farcry you'll be playing I'd stick with the GTX280's

Corsair HX620 would be perfect for what you want, my only quibble would be the price... 0_o it seems to have gone up again!
Asus P45Q would be my suggestion for your board, though it wouldn't give you room to put another gfx in as well later if that is what you are thinking of doing, though a GTX280 is more than enough for most people.
I'd stick to the Q6600 and put my money somewhere else, but I'm sure people will tell me I'm wrong. Throw in 2x2GB DDR800 OCZ reapers and your away
As for case if you like things plane and quiet look at the P182 otherwise Coolermaster have got there new case out which might be worth a look: HAF 932 ( no idea how good it is, but looks the part)

I've left out the case, it's purely down to your choice, pick a case that suits your needs.

I've chosen the E8400 for the CPU, you can easily overclock it, great for gaming. If you want to go quad, then save your money and get a Q6600 and overclock that.

At the resolution your playing at the 4870 is more than enough to handle most things (except crysis at very high, but nothing can handle this well anyway), the one I've chosen is on special this week, it's a steal ;)

It doesn't need a better PSU.

Corsair is probably the best PSU for the price, and 520W will be plenty enough to run the system.

No point in spending more than he needs to.
