Spec me a new pc

I've heard of the P5Q Pro having lots of problems with different memory providers has anyone else had this problem?

New Spec
---------

Asus GeForce 9800 GT HybridPower 1024MB GDDR3 HDTV/DVI (PCI-Express)
OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Platinum Series DDR2

Suggestions/ideas?

change the memory to something like Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX, don't need pc8500 to run the q6600.

if you're looking at the 20" monitor then i'd maybe have a look at the 4850 or a 512mb 9800gt.

Ok so if i change the memoru and get the spec as above will i be able to run 2 x 9800 GT in crossfire and do they have to be the same brand/card ?

can't run 9800GTs in crossfire, nvidia cards are run in SLI, so you need an 7xx series motherboard.

or you can change to the 4850 card and crossfire it in future.

not sure about same brand/card tbh for the 9800GT in sli.

Sorry.... I'm a bit dense. It's been ages since ive done this

Asus GeForce 9800 GT HybridPower 1024MB GDDR3 HDTV/DVI (PCI-Express)
Asus P5Q Pro Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

So these would work fine together ? I'm a bit confused. Thanks for the help. With wanting to go Sli in the future

if you want to go sli in the future you will need something like the Asus P5N-T Deluxe nForce 780i:

someone might be able to recommend a better sli board, thats just an example.

New Spec
---------

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz
Samsung SM-2032BW Pebble 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Glossy Black
ASUS P5N-T Deluxe AiLifestyle Series nForce 780i SLI Socket 775 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard
Coolermaster Real Power 520w Modular Power Supply
ASUS HD 4850 1 GB DDR3 Dual DVI HDTV out PCI-E Graphics Card
Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black (No PSU)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache
Pioneer DVR-216DBK 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (66I-01939)

Changed the motherboard and changed the memory as OCZ isn't on the asus website as being supported by their mainboards. Also changed the 9800 gt for a 4850 as apparently these are better Could you guys please check to see if i have missed anything or anything which might cause a problem ?

You were going with an intel chipset for sli, then you changed to the ati card for crossfire, but changed to an nvidia board without crossfire

Get the P5Q Pro and a 4850, should be fine for a long time

Im thoroughly confused. I thoight SLI and crossfire were the same and it didnt matter what card you put in?

Socket 775

nVidia chipsets (650i,680i,750i,780i,790i) support upto 3 nvidia cards, and can run 1 ati card (no crossfire)

Intel Chipsets (P35.P45.X38,X48) support up to 2 ati cards in crossfire, and can run 1 nvidia card (no sli)

Just be warned nvidia chipset based boards are generally poor for overclocking. This is why people tend to automatically spec intel based boards.

Thanks for clearing that up. So the Asus P5Q Pro P45 motherboard can run 2 ATI cards in SLI when i buy one. Thanks for helping me guys im currently runing a socket 954 64 3000+ with a radeon x800 pro so im a bit behind the times. Can anyone reccomend me a decent psu with more than one sata adaptor that will be able to power the above?

Please thanks

Also is there any problem with using the stock cooler? Or should i invest in a new one. Also, will the CPu retail boxed come with some gel for putting inbetween the cpu and the cooler?

*confused*

No problem with using the retail cooler so long as you don't want to overclock it too much, and yes it will come with some paste already attached to the bottom of the heatsink.

Hi neil3k, the only thing I would look at changing would be the motherboard to a P45 chipset such as the Asus P5Q Pro. It's a rock solid motherboard with great overclocking capabilities.

If you are looking to overclock then I would seriously look at getting an aftermart CPU cooler. If you only really want to spend around £30 then have a look at the Tuniq Tower 120 which is a great cooler for the price.

If you are willing to spend a bit more then the Thermalright TRUE Black 120 is one of the best air coolers you can get and is highly regarded. Since it doesn't come with a fan you will need to buy one separately and one that is highly rated is the Noctua NF-P12 fan. :)

Not that bothered about overclocking so the standard cooler will do? thanks for the advice regarding the mobo it saved me a few quid. will 520W be enough ?
