I'm after a new 1080p LCD TV 40-46inches. It will be used for 90% xbox and the rest watching films through my PC. What TV would you recommend?

I currently use an LG32lxr. Obviously as its main use is gaming input lag is a concern. When I got the LG I was sure the the response time was 8ms. Some of these new 'LED' LCDs have a higher input lag. I have been checking out some of the reviews on avforums and a lot of the LCD screens have input lag of > 45ms and maybe down to 32ms with game mode on.

Is this measuring the same thing as when I got my LG? Will I notice this when playing FPS online with the xbox360.
What TV would you buy if it was purely for gaming via the xbox360?

If the TV has optical out would it be possible to set the xbox to 5.1 and then run an optical cable from the TV to my amp (this way if I connect a PS3 I won't need to swap cables around as my amp only has one optical input).

Thanks

I've been looking at the 42" Panny G15 (plasma) £700 and the LG 42LF7700 (LCD) £600, primarily because they both have built in Freesat HD receivers and they seem to be amazing value at the moment.

They are both 100Hz so should be silky smooth for gaming (the LG has a 3ms response time compared to your current 8ms) and they both have optical-out for connection to an AV receiver. The LG has 80,000:1 contrast so blacks are fairly black (not quite the 2million:1 of the Panny but then thats the difference between LCD and Plasma).

The Panny has a few extra features like Vierracast (internet connection to allow you to watch iPlayer and the like) and it's also supposed to have amazing image quality. It just depends on whether you think the extra £100 is worth it and you want a plasma over an LCD...

Not really fussed about plasma/LCD. As this set will be mainly for gaming I thought the general view was LCD was better. Do plasma's suffer screen burn and the like still?
I'll have a look at the two you mention, 3ms response time sounds great.

I'm happy to spend a bit more if the gaming performance would benefit.

Anyone else got any more suggestions?

Thanks

I have been looking at the LG. The earlier model LGxxlh30/3000 series is supposed to have better input lag compared to some of the later LG's. Seen some posts that now say its a bit of a lottery what panel you get. I think its the IPS-S panels that have lower input lag. NB: from my limited research input lag and response time are not the same and a lot of the new TV's have bad input lag but good response times (which is no good for gaming).

What about the Sony's? I know they are a bit more but the KDL40W4500 review on HDTVtest.co.uk had a recorded input lag of 0-10ms in game mode which should be fine. Its a bit annoying but it seems that the older LCD tech (without LED backlights etc) is better for gaming.

It would be good to know what the input lag is on my current LG32lxr as I might be worrying over nothing.
