Spec me a Nikon TTL flashgun

They overheat quickly though...

The Di866, or the SB-900, or both?! :D

I've not read much about Di866's overheating, unlike the SB-900, and I've certainly never had either of mine overheat.

Mind you, I don't exactly fire off 600 flashes in an hour, but not far off during weddings etc. The Di866 secondary fill flash is really useful, even when you're bouncing off walls/ceilings etc with the main flash.

Both, Lol
I'm moving away from flash these days, but in my short time in photography I'v tried pretty much most flashes from Canon, Nikon, Nissin, Yongnuo and IMO the Di866 is a very good flash, but compared to some others, it has a longer flash duration than say the Canon equivalent. As for Nikon, the SB-700 and Di866 probably has a similar flash duration with the SB-700 being a smidge quicker (better x-sync).

The only times I found my self over heating flashes like the Di866, is outside at full power and often (but not only) with HSS trying to take on the sun, inside you just don't need to be at full power, unless in a very large or dark church maybe.

Canon flashes (580exii/430exii) let you fire off allot more pops before the thermal protection kicks in, and the SB-700 is impossible to overheat as well similar to the Canons as it just slows down the recycle time.

If I remember correctly it only took about 10-15 consecutive full power pops for the Di866 thermal protection to kick in (I may have been using a battery pack due to long recycle times, not sure though as it was quite along time ago).

In every other respect though, I found the Di866 was an excellent flash.

Had a play with an SB-900 earlier and ended up buying one earlier this evening. Does exactly what I want and is fully compatible with my "employers" studio kit, allowing me to branch out nicely.

It's a good choice; so much easier to use than the SB-800. I have, err, more than one of them.

Well I went into my local store and bought it there instead of messing around with the delivery and its an impressive piece of kit. Me and my housemate thought it would be a good idea to test the flash on full power output and we could still see the halo of the flash a good 5 minutes later lol. Got some other bits and bobs whilst I was in there also including a 16gb 30mb/s SDHC card and another EN-EL14 battery for my camera.
