Spec me a Notebook Hard disk...

My Hard disk failed today in my Dell Inspiron 510m. So I need a new one. I think it's IDE as well.

I need at least 40Gb
Must be *fairly* quiet.
Fast*ish* (5400rpm)
Reliable

Haven't really got a budget but don't really want to go over £50 ish.

Is this HD any good?

I replaced the stock Toshiba 4200rpm drive with Western Digital 5400rpm 60GB. The WD is quieter (seek & idle) and pretty nippy, using it for my HTPC boot drive.

I have just ordered a 160Gb Seagate (SATA) 5400 drive to replace the 60Gb in my MacBook.

Price is ~ £65.00 + Vat - PATA model is about a few pence cheaper.

The 120Gb is ~ £45.00 + Vat and the 100Gb is ~ £35.00 + Vat, IIRC.

got a seagate 100GB 7200rpm in my dell inspiron 1501, wouldnt advise it for laptops that have other hot compoents near it idles about 35 and load is 53

Yes, I decided not to for a 7200 rpm drive - mainly on noise, heat and price grounds.

niose isnt an issue, the drive is pretty silent other than the seek times, cost me £80 new so it wasnt that bad.
