Looking to buy a really decent pair of headphones. Want great sound quality, good bass and good noise cancelling.

I recently bought a pair of Sennheiser HD228 Mini/Lightweight Headphones. And they are ****.

Any suggestions? budget prob about £100

Audio-Technica ATH-M50 £105 or take a risk on some goldring ns1000 few build quality issues as of late but they are £50.

Ultrasone DJ1 or Denon D1100 or maybe Creative Aurvana Live!

When you say noise cancelling do you mean isolation or actual battery powered noise cancelling?

They look quite good. Anyone got a pair of Bose around-ear headphones?

Bose are decent but pretty much ignored in the headphone world as they are considered very overrated and overpriced.

£50 ish Creative Aurvana Live or Goldring Ns1000
£100 ish Audio-Technica ATH-M50 or Audio Technica ATH-M50S (the S means straight cable rather than the non S versions coiled cable) very hard to beat in the £100 territory.

I'm confused, who is the OP?!:D

Unless you are using them specifically on planes I don't see why active noise cancelling is worth it. Also, if you want ultra-isolation (non-NC) IEMs are better as they can do like -26dB.

Sennheiser HD-25, brand new a little out of your price range, but if you can find a second hand pair they usually go for the £100 mark.
Great sound quality, top notch isolation, comftable and durable. Couldnt recommend them enough.

The HD-25 SP's can be had for less than £100 I think, they're almost as good.

Aye noise isolation was the word I was supposed to use :) a lot of nice suggestions. I guess me being drawn to bose is a mistake, they do seem madly overpriced

Bring Other Sound Equipment! :D

Nah, bose are okay if you are willing to pay the prices, but at the end of the day they are consumer orientated lifestyle products. Not serious audiophile gear.

Until last week I had the XB500,XB700 and XB1000.

I think the XB700 are a great purchase for those who want some fun, bassy headphones at a great price. Just don't expect audiophile quality sound reproduction. They also don't really have good noise isolation - more for home use I'd say.

What are you using now?

Bleh its so hard to choose >_<

To help narrow your choices down...

What music do you generally listen to?
What will you be using to power them? (amp or soundcard or ipod?)
I know you want isolation, but do you need portable headphones or is it for at home?

ATH-M50. Got 3 pairs they are so good. I primarily use them for producing music at home and found them to be superb.

(well I was in New York and they had them at £60. Silly not to buy another two.)

The M50 is a good budget can that is a decent all-rounder, but I don't think it does anything particularly well.

went for the Creative Aurvana Live headphones. Impressed with my choice :D thanks for the advice guys
