Hi Everyone, I'm new here and pretty new to building my own PC, I have upgraded/replaced components before but thats about it!

I am looking to build a PC to be used to hold a fair amount of media (so Likely a 1Tb+ HD, although it seems a lot of HDD's seem to be larger anyway)... Also it will be used for general office like tasks, and maybe running some CAD software (Catia V5).

Not really to into PC gaming as I've got an xbox, so gaming specs probably not needed.

Would it be better to have one HD partitioned to hold the OS and documents, and another HD to hold the media (would like media separate).

Other Requirements:

TV Tuner for freeview
Wireless n NIC
HDMI out
Options with and without an OS

Budget ~£500

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks for that Redmint,

Is a graphics card not required then? I would have thought CAD work would use a fair bit of video memory?

That is an Idea... I could possibly increase the budget if necessary.

That however needs to include,

Motherboard
Ram
Case
PSU
Processor
Graphics
HDD's
Wireless N Card
TV Card

Am I dreaming to get all of this for 600?

Just to confirm will be used for 3D CAD, Storing a bit of media and maybe some photoshop when I decide to learn.

MSI P67A-C45 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - (Sandybridge) ** B3 REVISION **

Is this a suitable replacement, and its only an extra £15,

Other than that all ok?

I've done a few changes and dropped the HD down to 500gb, which should be ok at the moment as I've still got my media on an external hard drive. Can get a larger one at a later date.

One more question, aside from a cable to connect the monitor, what other cables would I have to buy for this build? Does the PSU come with a cable? etc

Have placed my order today, ready to be delivered next Saturday!

Thanks for all your help guys, no doubt i'll be back when it comes to putting it together!

Well its delivery day tomorrow and I'm slightly excited.. just like a big kid at Christmas!

What tools am I likely to need to put it together?

Ok its all arrived, just a small question, there are two standoffs that have small collars on if that makes sense? where do these go on the board?

I have go the MSI P67A-C45 motherboard, and the Coolermaster Elite 430 case...

Does the motherboard allow "Azalia" audio, or just the standard AC-97?

Hopefully last question before the great check over and switch on...

The Graphics card Sapphire HD5850 has two 6 pin power connectors on, it shipped with two cables 6 pin to 4pin molex... I guess it needs both connected up with the PSU?

One very very last question, the motherboard speaker... Any idea where it connects to on the P67A-C45?

Looked through the manual and no joy? Its a four pin connector, but only two wires going into it? unless its not needed?

Ah ok now after a few days of everything running fine... it has decided things don't want to work...

Defragged it and fired up shogun total war 2, then the processor usage started going up... and causing the game to lag...

tried restarting the computer now it won't start... it goes past the stage where it flashes up the motherboard name... then you get the flashing cursor and nothing...

any ideas?
