im a amateur and i have been messing with the settings on my camera for a while now and i have learned pretty much what each setting does however getting them to interact properly is taking more time

i want to get out of auto and even programmed auto mode

so can anyone recommend me a book or 2 to help me learn?

thank you in advanced

Many will mention Byran Peterson's 'Understanding Exposure' . Very good book for someone starting out. Its not too technical, but helps you understand how shutter speed, aperture, ISO and focal length work together.

I've got the Kindle versions of Scott Kelby's 'Digital Photography Book' Vols 1-4, and highly recommend them.

This everytime - It's a great book for someone wanting to take their camera out of Auto.

Beaten too it - but these are very good books. I think you can preview them on Amazon as well to see if they are what you are looking for. Kelby in particular uses a lot of humor and his writing style is more like a book of great tips than anything else. Would recommend either without hesitation.

The only issue with Kelby's Digital Photography Book series is that I find he tends to repeat the same things in another book. They certainly have valuable information in them, but sometimes they are perhaps to brief, with only a single page dedicated to explaining something.

I'm not dissing him though as I've got a couple of other books by him which are very detailed and take you through the entire process from shooting a certain look, the settings, lighting, direction and post-processing.
