I'd like some greenery in my living room which will survive without too much light. Due to my house being built at an angle the living room window is fairly close to the pavement so I tend to keep the blinds shut or open a little. This means during the day light it fairly limited. Its by no means dark, just shaded.

Any ideas on something that will continue to survice without direct sunlight?

Ferns, Cacti, BONSAI TREE.

All do pretty well with limited natural / direct sunlight.

Have no idea how I know this.... :s

Bonsai tree is kind of a sweeping statement as there are so many things that can be made into a bonsai. An awful lot of, in fact most bonsai are intended as outdoor plants at least for part of the year, and don't do too well inside at all. Even a lot of indoor varieties like sunny rooms. Check carefully with wherever you buy one whether it will do well in a dark room.

aloe-vera plant :D

+1

mines funky, had it about 4 years, was looking rather unwell recently tho so i re-potted it, its root ball was crazy!

hopefully it will come back to its bright green spiky self soon!

Turn your front room into a small forest

Bonsai are hard to look after well (or I just suck). Or at least mine died, since then got one of those "Magical bamboo", re-potted it into a proper soil and now its about 1.5+m tall. The other one is "jade plant", apparently these are more of an outdoor types, but living in a flat makes it a bit meh. Still its alive and well so far. They are kinda in the light in the morning and in shade for the rest of the day, so far doing pretty well.

my Bonsai is a hardy wee bugger, I forget it water it all the time. Now i keep it in a deep tray thing and when I notice its leaves are wilting I just flood it with 2 litres of water. It didn't much like this treatment to begin with, had yellow leaves all the time, but seems to have got used to it now.

Contemplating encasing it in a square glass tall open topped container and then getting the miracle grow down it to see it it will grow up the container with a square shaped. greenery.
