Hi all

Recently ive been drinking lots more coffee and would really like to have 'proper' coffee rather than instant. The trouble with a proper coffee machine/grinder is:

a) I cba with the time involved, especially in the mornings
b) I cba with the effort involved, again, expecially in the mornings
c) I know **** all about coffee!

So ive been looking at these 'pod' things. They have the benifits of solving all 3 issues with proper coffee machines, yet produce stuff better than shoddy instant brown slosh. I know all the coffee buffs are going to cringe, but what is recomended as a decent coffee pod machine? Things like Tassimo, Nespresso, Dolce Gusto, etc etc. Id like something that is:

a) quick and easy to make coffee with
b) tastes better and does more interesting things than instant
c) doesnt cost me a fortune to buy the pods.

Im open to suggestions, but really dont want to be spending more than £80, Tassimo seems to be around £60, and te Gusto machines start at only £40.

Cheers

Thats these things with the wee packets you put in and makes a coffe? We have one of those, and imo not that much better than a cup of jar coffe and more expensive for the packets.

You want proper coffee but not real coffee.....you can't have one and not the other :p

These pods are ok, not seen may complaints about them but it's not "proper" coffee, if you really want to get one, Nespresso gets good recommendations from most people.

But then when you try a cup of espresso from a decent espresso machine, it is only then your eyes will be open and realise what proper coffee really is.

I know that pods dont count as 'proper' coffee, but there the closest im going to come to being able to make Latte or Cappuccino at home without having to invest time, money and brain power into a proper coffee machine. Id love to have a proper machine one day, but at the moment, a nice non instant coffee to wake me up in the mornings will suffice.

I have a Senseo Philips pod machine.

Takes about 2 min to make nice coffee.

The pods are rather expensive though...

We've just bought a Tassimo and I'm impressed with it.

Bought a load of different coffees to try out and it is a lot better than instant, but not as good as a proper coffee machine. Thing is when you get into 'proper' coffee circles its never ending expense. My mate bought a Gaggia machine for £300 on ebay, then upgraded to something costing over a thousand plus a grinder costing about £250. He now swears that cheap coffee machines like the Gaggia he had are barely better than instant. Personally I just like a shot of caffeine that tastes better than instant - sounds like you're the same.

The pods work out about 15-20p per cup for the Tassimo, although buying online is cheaper and a better selection.

Just buy ground coffee in a bag and a coffee maker with a filter and jug. This is just as easy as instant and tastes much better. If you get addicted you can easily get a grinder as well to grind you own coffee.

if your Senseo is taking that long to make a coffee then I think you should get it looked at.

We use nothing but Senseo in our house because everything else even ground coffee through a coffee machine just pales by comparison.

Start to finish including loading it with the 2 coffee pads it takes about 30 to 40 seconds for 2 cups of fresh brewed coffee.

I think a distinction needs to be made here tho the OP said he wanted a coffee POD machine which is an extract in a little plastic POD and rightly so people have recommended the nespresso which is about the best POD machine you can buy in a normal price range. if you want to go silly money then there are the Krupps machines.

However a coffee PAD which is what I think the OP actually meant is ground coffee in a pad much like a tea bag. These make "proper" coffee by the individual cup.

i have a nespresso machine, it is miles better than the tassimo and senseo machines ive had in the past

I'm sorry but you are comparing apples to oranges here. The Senseo machine makes regular coffee, a nespresso machine makes Espresso hence it's name. those are two different variaties of coffee so you cannot honestly expect them to compare to each other.

Google Aerobie, Its a fancy Cafetiere, fantastic coffee from it, so much so that I couldnt tell the difference between that and the Gaggia Classic i had.So hassle free aswell, does eat a lot of coffee tho.

Another Senseo user here, and i really like it.....60-90 seconds and i have my brew in my hand.

Only problem is the variety of pods to choose from, i keep trying different ones from online stores and still keep coming back to the original Senseo Dark Roast pods.

*allo allo*I'm going to say this only once

True coffee enlightenment.. follow these priorities :D

1. The taste comes from the coffee; ergo get the best, freshest coffee.
This is *the* most important step.

2. The flavour is released by the grind; ergo get the best grinder that produces the be best uniform grind.
The important part is that ground coffee goes stale at an alarming rate - we're talking 15 minutes.

3. The coffee in your cup extracted from your coffee; ergo get the most suited best coffee brewing method (french press, aero, etc).

If a pod machine fits your needs go for it. (I'll resist making a comment about them)

Thousands - seems a tad expensive to me! :D

You're having a laugh. It takes that long just for the water to boil if not longer
