I'm looking for a POE unmanaged network switch probably 4-8 ports. Only needs to power 1 Hikvision CCTV camera.

Any recommendations?

I'm currently using the Sky Q router and the wifi isn't great (3 floor Victorian house). I'm looking to replace the wifi with a Ubiquiti Networks UAP-AC-LR. Is it worth replacing the router as well?

If you're getting a Unifi AP, might be worth getting a Unifi switch? I have two of the US-8-60W switches and can't fault them. If you're not investing in the Unifi infrastructure, you could probably get a cheaper PoE switch.

Depending on your budget, there is an awesome switch for sale by @Steveocee if you go down the Ubiquiti route then this will tie everything in together nicely and give you plenty of future expansion options.

I'm not looking for a high end switch as its literally going to have 1 CCTV camera plugged in to it.

I was looking at something like this - NETGEAR 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Unmanaged PoE Switch (GS308P) - with 4 x PoE @ 55W

Fair enough. Then yeah that will be fine, just make sure it's enough power for that camera. 55w will be fine though normally.

There’s very little point buying a new unmanaged switch just for PoE for 2 devices unless you desperately need to cut down on the number of 240V sockets you’re using. A UAP-AC-LR will come with a PoE injector so that’s the cheapest option.

The benefit of investing in a managed switch (like a Unifi switch) comes when you want to see what’s going on in your system or you want to add a bit of security and segregate your camera from your WiFi. And the problem with managed switches is they’re at least 50% more expensive.

An unmanaged PoE switch is just a neater power supply than you currently have. It adds absolutely nothing else to your network. If that’s all you want/need then fine, the Netgear you mention will be that neater power supply.

Netgear GS305P is slightly cheaper with 1 + 4 PoE ports which I was using but swapped it for a Netgear GS108PEv3 when I split my upstairs and downstairs networks with an up-link between.

For one device an injector my be neater but I now run 3 cameras and will likely buy a Pi 4 with a PoE Hat to run VPN/Pi Hole 24/7 so more potential could be useful.

If it’s just POE for two devices, then injectors generally make sense, make absolutely sure that the hardware supports the PoE standard for your devices, Unifi AP’s for example can catch people out. If it’s low bandwidth devices eg VoIP phones or HD cameras, then you may even be able to get away with 100Mbit.

You could have had a 48port managed PoE switch (Zyxel 1910-48HP) for just over £25 delivered or the ‘TS-8-Pro’ version of the Ubiquiti listed above for £68 delivered, you just have to be willing to search for a bargain or pay retail... then wait for the seller to ship them ;)
