totally run out of usb ports now got 8 in use and no room for anything else. Wnat something that can be hidden behind my computer for cable tidyness and before anyone asks

G13,G110,G500,webcam,printer,roccat kaves, link to monitor usb hub,360 wireless receiver,

my "Trust 7 Port USB2 Powered Hub" has survived 3 years of use so far, neat tidy and small
you can find them in the rainforest and popular auction sites etc

Failing that why not just get a pci/pcie x1 USB card? You can get them in 4/5 port flavours or even try out USB 3, though unless you need high speed storage it probably isn't worth the extra

do they just go straight into pci and work or do the need to run off a header?

they are powered off the PCI slot (all the ones i have ever owned have been never heard of one running off a header,

the triangular looking thing plugs into a USB port then u have 7 more ports, it comes with a power adapter to plug it into the mains if you need extra power but if its just webcams printers etc they do not need the extra power, how ever if you are charging things then you will need to plug it into the mains with the supplied adapter and cable

While we're on the subject of USB hubs, do they add much latency at all? I have a few midi controllers that are usb, and was wondering if using a USB hub for my laptop would add much latency at all?

I've used a few over the years and have seen no perceivable latency. I assume you mean keyboard and mouse input? I'd always plug KB&M directly into the board but that is mainly my superstition over any noticeable deficit of PCI controller cards or hubs :p

BTW USB hubs divide bandwidth up, so your essentially plugging all devices into one port. This is only an issue if you are moving data to storage two or more devices at one time

So say if you had all your peripherals plugged in at the same times such as keyboard,mouse,g13,wheel,pedals etc etc they would still be ok to use or would you keep all the important stuff plugged in the mobo...
