Morning peeps,

NOt posted on here for what feels like years...............

Well my old mans printer has given up the ghost and he has been told by
mother to get a "good one".

Old printer is Epson R300 i suggested an IP4700 and he thought that was "too cheap".......

Can someone spec me a decent printer upto £200 please.

Cheers

Andy

I have an Canon MP600, so I recommend it's successor, MP610 (I think)

Also IMO
for quality Canon > Epson > HP
for reliability HP > Canon > Epson
I can't comment on other brands because they're the only brands I've ever owned or used. I would NEVER buy another Epson.

Thanks,

TBH its just for pictures so i didnt realy want a multi function printer. I'm cant see
there would be a great deal of difference in PQ between the 610 and ip4700.

There seems to be nothing around the £200ish mark that warrants spending all that extra money (that i can find anyway)

Cheers

£200 + ink and paper gets you an awful lot of professionally printed pictures. Why not use a service like photobox.co.uk?

I have a B&W laser and send all my photo printing to the pros. That system works great.

got a trusty old Canon IP4300. Brilliant bit of kit. Frugal on ink when printing photos, cd's etc.
Plus if your going to use paper from Ilford you can download profiles for most canon printers from Ilford website. Makes a big difference using the correct profile.

They have just become grandparents recently so are very snap happy, plus when they take photos they dont like waiting for them to be sent etc and like
the flexibility of custom sizes.

So ordering online is a defo no go.

Looks like its the ip4700 then for now.

Just to add my knowledge, I've got a Canon MP610, and have to say it's a great printer. It doesn't take up that much space for a multi-function printer, and it has loads of little bits which make it really great to use, such as the paper tray is inside so you don't have paper sticking out, and the print tray automatically pops down when you print something. Quality wise it seems absolutely fine for when I'm printing my photos, and the ink cartridges aren't that expensive compared to other brands.

I used the IP4500 and the quality never ceases to amaze me for such a cheap and small printer. We use it for business too and it never fails to impress clients.

Cartridges are also cheap - about £17 from Cartridge World for a full refill set, and they last a looong time.

Home printers are appaulling compared to proper lab prints, they dont last, the inks dont dry properly, colours are often bad and generally the quality sucks!

I deal with customers photos every day as we handle pictures for calendars, physical prints, sadly many of our customers send us home prints and wonder why the end result isnt great....start off poor end up poor. Our common problems are outlined above and we handle hundreds of thousands of images every year. The other problem is it encourages people to hand trim their photos.....if you want a nice looking picture dont trim it with a pair of scissors by hand!!!!!!

///end rant!
