Spec me a printer

Ok so Im looking for a wireless printer. Was thinking of going colour laster but was advised that a) there may not be a wireless laser printer and b) its fairly expensive.

Im looking to hook this up wirelessly to a wireless router so that I can print from my desktop and my and my wifes laptop.

Was recommended this:

Deskjet 6980.

All suggestions welcome. Looking at around £100 but can stretch it further if need be by another 50 or so.

EDIT: Just realised, the wife wants a scanner/photocopier facility. So please spec me a printer with the above requirements but one of those scanner affairs

Unfortunately its out of stock, but you cant go wrong with Canon

EDIT - Actually, the only two wireless ones available here are both Canons and both out of stock. Must be popular!

you dont have to have a wireless printer. You can get external Wifi print servers which will allow you to connect any printer to a Wifi network.

as for colour laserjet... not for £100

the cheapest I found when I looked recently was about £120 for a wired networked one let alone wifi. Inkjet is far more appropriate for you. Wireless print servers are quite cheap now anything from 30-50 quid. Be careful tho, there are both parallel and USB ones and ones that do both, be sure you get one that will fit the connections on your printer. Probably best to buy the printer first then get a server to fit

Hmm just a thought.

If a printer had ethernet connectivity and it was connected to a wireless router via ethernet, would a laptop user connected wirelessly to that same router be able to print to that printer?

Nope it's not a router, it's a box with an Arial. It plugs into a printer and connects to a wifi network. Nothing more. Usually you have to connect to it using a PC in one way or another to configure it.
Yes you could get a printer with a built in wired print server (or an external one, same as the wireless ones) and connect that to the access point using cat5 and wireless devices can access it. Not to go too far into the networking side as this is the hardware forum, anything on the LAN side of the router can talk to each other. Be it wireless or wired

Yes it can. It is the setup I have at home, printer connected by ethernet to the wireless router and the laptop can print using the wireless network.

I'd go for a Canon.

The MP600R is wireless and highly rated, as is the newer MP620 iirc.

Correct Justin, the MP620 is the newest Canon wireless all in one. Only been on the saite about a week.

Thanks for your recommendations, but I suddenly had a thought...

Since I could wire a printer to my wireless router, I thnk ill go with an ethernet based printer.

The Canon MX850 sprang to mind.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I do need it to have a paper feeder for photocopying facilities btw.
