I'm not sure if this has come up before but i'm currently at uni and looking for a printer. Most of the printers i have seen while browsing have many features that i don't need/want, LCD screens, WiFi and so on. I really dont want to waste money on these features that i will never use, i feel this money would be better spend on higher quality print heads etc.

All i need is a printer that will scan and print at reasonably high quality via USB (my course requires some printed graphic work but professional standards are by no means necessary). I have no preference on brand although i have had some trouble previously with HP.

I have a budget of up to £80ish can be stretched slightly although the cheaper the better of course. Ink costs are also a concern, not so much initial outlay but they must last if they are expensive and so on.

Additional points:
Im not fussed regarding card readers (i have this covered on my laptop)
Must be mac compatible

So overall i just want a quality no nonsense printer/scanner. Any help you can give would be great because i feel like im going mad looking at 1000000s of models :D thanks in advance

Canon would be my brand of choice, though any scanner/printer you can get will now have some of those features you don't want. The 'better quality print heads' etc. only come on much more expensive models.

HP Deskjet 1000 if you just want printing, HP Deskjet 1050A if you want scanning as well.

I would get an Epson printer - the ink is cheaper and the quality is comparable.

In addition I had two HP's die within twelve months whereas the Epson I got after ditching HP has lasted for two years without issues and costs less in ink as I can replace each colour separately.

Canon PIXMA MG5350 has a scanner, or the Canon Pixma MG5250 both great printers, each has five seperate inks, better than the HP Tri Colour cartridges in my opinion.

Both can be found within your budget.

I have an Epson SX515W. Replacement (non branded) cartridges can be had for just over £2 for a complete set :)
