Hi guys and girls!

I'm quite new to the overclockers forum, and was wondering if some of you nice people could help me!

Im after a freeview hard drive and DVD recording unit. I previously owned an old digifusion unit which has dual tuner and records just onto a harddrive, the idea was brilliant - look at the tv guide and click record on the programs you want, its exactly what i wanted (However it never worked, the stupid unreliable thing!!!), nice and easy plug and play so my dad can use it without having a haemorrage trying to work out what to do - he's technology illiterate basically, even though he owns a fair few gadgets! He usually just shouts to me to sort it out, so i need something thats very easy to use, nice and user friendly :D.

So basically im looking for a decent recorder which will do this job. I dont need massive amounts of space, 160GB is more than sufficient, the dual tuner is deffinately an idea that i like so that i can watch one program and record another! However i already have an inbuilt freeview tuner on the tv so im guessing i wouldnt really need this feature.

My budget is around £250, i dont really want to go over this, but if needs be i will, but only just! Its doesnt need to be HD or anything as i cant see me upgrading my TV any time soon!

Cheers for any responses!

Jamie

After trying serveral PVR's and DVD Recorders and being unhappy with all of them (TV Onics, a £400 sony DVD recorder to name a couple) I bought this a couple of weeks ago.

Its a fantastic bit of kit, really impressed with it, it may only have a single tuner but to me thats not a big issue, it does everything else so well.

  • Great freeview picture
  • Really impressive DVD player (as good as my £250 standalone Pioneer DVD player)
  • Easy to setup
  • really nice clear menus, simple to use
  • can record to HDD or DVD
  • can back everything up from HDD to DVD, even mark multiple recordings in playlists and back them up.

It cost me £220 from one of the popular highstreet electrical retailers (not the spacey sounding one) website.

Do you really need a DVD recorder? If not then the Humax 9200T is definately the one to get. I was dithering for absolutely ages over what to get (was on a ~£150 budget) but eventually took the plunge and went for the Hummy. It's fantastic. Can't say a bad word about it. It's so easy to use and has loads of hidden tricks and gadgets too. Go for it, it's the best selling PVR in the UK for a good number of reasons :)

EDIT: As for the twin/single tuner argument.. i cant imagine not being able to watch another channel while recording. Surely there's two main reasons for recording a show; [a] you're out and you want to to watch something else at the same time. If it's and you only have a single tuner then you're stuffed!

Guess it depends if your TV has a built in freeview tuner in or not ;), if it has then haing only one in the recorder isnt really that much of an issue, its a handy feature all the same.
