I need a new cpu & motherboard. I currently have a ATI 4850 gpu. and the rest of the bits. Im looking at using crossfire in the future. Can anyone recommend me a decent CPU(Quad) and motherboard for around £250.

thanks for the recommendations. I was really interested in this q6600, countless rave reviews., and also just reading about AMD's new chip - AMD Phenom X4 Quad Core 9850 2.50GHz Black Edition. I've read that this may be faster & cheaper. Is this true? anyone with this chip?

tankskun: If your buying new I recommend you do not buy a Q6600 (Kentsfield-65nm), it was last years great chip but now has fallen by the wayside! :p

If you really must have a Quad Core now then make sure you get one featuring the updated cores (Yorkfield-45nm). The new chips are faster and a lot more energy efficient, especially when overclocking!

When trying to justify the added expense of the latest tech I normally just explain it's more eco/green, your computer will use less electricity, your power bills will be reasonable (especially noticable on machines running near 24/7) and your doing your bit to save the planet!
