My seagate is on the verge of dying, and so I am on the lookout for a replacement hdd as my primary C drive for windows.

I had a 74gb raptor for about 2 years which was a bit loud but it was good, I regretably sold that! Should I go for another raptor?

I am after decent performance and good reliability.

I got a 300GB Velociraptor, it's fast and quiet. Page file is on a separate 74GB Raptor. Still difficult to beat if you need performance right now - otherwise wait for SSDs. I see no reliability issues reported with the Velocirators.

theres no point blowing over 230 quid on a 300gb Velociraptor for what you use your system for

you just need one of these

silent, fast and reliable

or of you want to stick with the wd theme

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...ue 320GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (WD3200AAKS)

both are single platters, fast and quiet

my mate swears by a pair of these in raid, im sure he'll post here soon enough :p

I thought the WD3200AAKS had terrible seek due to it being purposely slowed down? As for the F1 I don't recommend them anymore due to having 2 out of 3 (320gb & 640gb) fail on me in under 6 months.

I would go for either the WD740HLFS, WD1500HLFS or WD6401AALS and partition as required.
