Spec me a Rare Scottish Whiskey

woah loads of names I never heard of before hehe - will read about them all thanks :D

IIRC he likes a story behind the bottle and the farm/brewer ie. the year before the farm had a fire on a field and that's why this year's bottle tastes kind of burnt (crap example but that type of thing if you know what I mean)

He's to drink it, not make love to it.

"Sitting in the Glen of the same name, taking its water from the River Livet which feeds into the Spey, Glenlivet has been producing whisky since the days when only small scale domestic production was legal.".
Nadurra is cask strength (my current bottle is 57.7%) and unchillfiltered - it's therefore a bit 'different' and certainly rare, in that you can't usually find it in supermarkets.

The Balvenies also have a good story, using two casks (sherry or port).

I had a glass of Jura 16 a couple of weeks ago. WOW that was tasty!

I also had an Islay at the same pub that was similar to Lapgroaig [one of my favourites]. I can't remember the name but I believe it was a Bowmore 12.

Incidentally I discovered, to my very great surprise, that there is a pub in Manchester that specialises in whisky. The Britons Protection: http://www.manchesterbars.com/britonsprotection.htm

Over 200 whiskys!

Their whisky menu is awesome and cruel, as you couldn't possibly have one of everything! :(

There is a better pub in Manchester for whiskey, its round the corner from the old salford royal.

Also if your into proper beer not larger crap, try a pub in salford called the Cresent. The Cherry beer is to die for and the chocolate porter.

Would be better if we know what types of whisky he likes, some people hate Islays but love Speysides. No one that likes whisky dislikes Speysides though.
He'd be happy to receive any of these:
Speysides:

Islays:

They are a great shop, you may be able to find those bottles slightly cheaper elsewhere but they aren't particularly common ones. They'll happily help you find the right bottle if you give them a call aswell. They also have a great cigar selection, so you could buy him a nice cigar also if he's into that. And if he's a piper, he will be.

I know the Crescent - spent many an afternoon in there when I should have been in a lecture! :p

I prefer Knott Bar and Sandbar in Manchester for my good beers! :D

Could go up to £50 max if that helps - sorry can't give more info, doesn't have to be rare perhaps just good and hard to find?

Ardbeg Uigeadail can be found for around 50 notes and is both rare and utterly utterly wonderful.

Might be able to get him a bottle from the year he was born, I got a 88 Macallan from my friends for my 21st and it was gorgeous. Think it was around £50.
