I only shave once every two or three days and I was always getting ingrown hairs and red bumps on my neck the day after shaving. (Which strangely enough was getting worse and worse as I get older. When I was 20 , I never got them ever)

After trying a bunch of different products, I found that if I exfoliate my face in the shower and then shave immediately after (while the bathroom is still steamy) and then use Boots Expert Mens Razor Bump Splash and Nivea Extra Smoothing Moisturiser, I don't get any bumps or ingrown hairs at all.

If I don't exfoliate but still use the splash and moisturiser, I still get one or two little ingrown hairs which disappear after a couple hours but it's not nearly as bad as it would be if I didn't use anything.
 
I hate shaving as it hurts so much, I even bought an expensive electric razor that dispenses moisteriser whilst it shaves, but I've gone back to just making sure I have a really sharp blade on my Mach3, and painfully hot water.

I'm going to get the Merkur and try it, because it's been recommended to me by a lot of people.
 
I get shaving rash like crazy on my neck from Razors. So I use a Philips Electric Shaver for my Neck (The HQ8150) And then I use the mach 3, To shape my beard and shave my cheeks and straighten my sideburns.

A little more effort, But not a sign of shaving rash anywhere.
 
It's probably the way you are shaving that causes the problems. Shaving when your face is warm and damp helps a lot more than changing razor in my experience. Shower your face with hot water or use a damp flannel then shave. You don't need to buy expensive products.

That is exactly the razor I use. I wanted to get a proper Safety Razor but didn't want to spend £30 on a razor straight away if it was going to irritate my face so I bought a Classic and some Merkur blades and its the best thing since sliced bread - I still have a Mach 3 for those days when I am late for work and need a quick once over but 99% of the time I use the Classic :)

I lost my classic about a year ago, I've been looking recently for a replacment. They seem to be very difficult to kind now, where did you get your from.

I got mine from Boots. I have also seen them in Asda, they are not often in stock at Asda though.

If your really having trouble getting a hold of one let me know and Ill see what I can do :)

Edit: Just noticed your in Norway, if you cant get them over there ill happily post one over for cost price + delivery.
 
I have mega sensitive skin but the Sensor Excel raxor works great. It has the bonus that the heads are much cheaper than the newer things like the fussion. Seriously, who needs 5 blades!
 
I currently use a Fusion, only because I was still using an old-skool razor before Christmas and the mrs' bought me a set.

I can't shave everyday as my neck just goes red, and it looks awful, so I have to leave the hair grow about 5-7 days and shave again (when it's shabby). Not ideal, and I'm in the market for a new razor anyway, so I'll pickup that Merkur :)

I know I'm beginning to sound like a Merkur salesman or something but my skin is the same as yours. I used Mach 3's and Wilkinson's Sword Titaniums etc. and they all made my neck blotchy and bright red.

Merkur 34 doesn't do that to me at all, it's nice and smooth.

Wait a few days EVH, I've got one arriving tomorrow (assuming the courier isn't late). I'll take a few piccies and let you know what it's like.
 
The Merkur safety razors are a quality bit of kit. I used to use a Gillette sensor jobbie until everyone started putting millions of blades on them. Then I bought a Merkur Safety Razor 23 and some extra Merkur Super blades and some decent shaving soap/cream and I haven't looked back. The missus got me a brush and I pinched one of her small rice bowls to lather the soap in.
All in all it does the job better than any of those cheapo space-age plastic things with the blades that cost the earth. Plus it will last for as long as I'm likely to need it, and with a practised hand it takes no more time to shave with it than any other razor.

Just remember to keep rinsing the blade and use the handle to follow the contours of your face to keep the angle of the blade right. I tend to use it with shorter strokes than the old Gillette because of the single blade; but has anyone ever actually shaved like you see in the adverts, with one swift sweep from ear to ear like some kind of crazy man? :p

HOLY REVIVAL!!

Any news on that Merkur platypus?

I've ordered a Merkur and 10 blades, so ideally it would be nice to hear how you got on :D
