Spec me a Replacement Sky Router

That's very interesting indeed. Its probably a case of "it depends who you talk to" at Sky CS. As nine times out of ten they won't help.

But as said if you're on a super budget then go TP Link, if you're mid range look at Asus, if you want the best go DrayTek.

I only have experience of a 2710n, but it's nowhere near the best.
The advertised QOS simply doesn't work at all, sync is lower than the Sky supplied box, and the UI hides options in stupid places.

I'd consider doing what I've done, and stringing a gigabit Tomato router off the back of the Sky one and simply using it as a modem :)

2710n is entry level in the DrayTek range and solid enough for basic ADSL needs. The UI has been dramatically improved in the last twelve months, if you look at the 2830n it'll blow you away. Nonetheless I know there is a lot of well founded Asus love on these boards and at the price for low level needs you can't fault them.

Do you know specifically which ASUS routers are the best value for money? With MER and WoL?

It is a bit of a strange one, i actually talked to customer services about this and although they said it was part of their T&Cs they will not terminate any contract if you choose to swap the router, they just wont be able to provide technical support. They even provided me with the username and password that i need to setup the new router. Highly recommend just asking if anybody reads this and is planning the same.

I am looking at the budget end i suppose. I just cant see the advantage of spending £100 on a router if a cheaper one does the same job. Im not saying there are not advantages, but i figure that if i dont know what the advantages are then i probably dont need them?

Are you a VIP customer? Either that or Sky keep changing their minds about giving out router authentication information!
