He has got a budget of £1100 and he doesnt need any peripherals or a monitor.

What I have come up with.

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

Asus P5N32-E SLi nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel
Kit (GX22GB6400UDC)

BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 640MB

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music 7.1 Soundcard - OEM

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB ST3250620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM

NEC AD7170A 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter (Silver) - OEM

Lian-Li PC-7 PLUS Aluminium Midi-Tower Case - Silver

Tagan TG800-U25 800W ATX2.0 Dual Engine Silent SLi Compliant Silent PSU

Akasa AK-183-L2B Amber Ultra Quiet 120mm Fan - 3 pin x 2

That comes to a total of £1,094.23 inc VAT and delivery.

Do you guys think there is anything that could be changed to get more out of his budget?

Cheers

Could save a bit of cash by going for a 6300 or 6400 and swapping the Freezer 7 for a Tuniq Tower for better cooling/overclocking.

Ok

With a Intel Core 2 DUO E4300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.80GHz (800FSB) - Retail and a Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler, the grand total is now £1,015.51 inc VAT and delivery.

E6400 all the way, mate had E6300 and cant get past 2.8. Mine is at 3ghz without breaking a sweat and i know she can do more. Just waiting for thesis writing to finish before pushing her more. Cant live without a pc atm :p

this would be a monster gaming pc, getting upto 12k in 3dm 06 if clocked to 3.2ghz (which would be no prob), large fast hdd, and some of the best memory thats sli cert as well (so is the mobo), i would buy some akasa fan filters as well there only a few quid each.

i highly recomend these psu, some very good reports on them for the money

and theres the all important 8800 gtx in there;)

top notch components and would do anything you throw at it

get it bought:D
