Spec me a router! (Please)

I've just moved into a 5th flr flat in an old tower block, having come from a flawless 12mb connection on the ground floor of a new build, I'm expecting a pretty severe drop in speeds once we're up and running.
I'm currently with O2 and using one of their decidedly average O2 wireless box II routers, so in the event that my new connection turns out to be toilet, I'm hoping the procurement of a higher quality router might squeeze a little more speed out of the line.
With that in mind, what O2 compatible router would people recommend?
The internet seems to think that the DSG2000 is a good bet, but I've read a lot about those failing and considering I'll probably only be able to get one second hand, I'd rather not risk something that might go to pop after 6 months.

Any help/suggestions will be much appreciated!

Billion 7800N for excellent performance & SNR tweaking with manufactures firmware.

Very cheap alternative is the BT Business hub. (£10-£15 from a well known auction site)

Get a Linksys WRT54G range and flash it with Tomato.

Hi, Does the Tomato firmware improve the ADSL2+ performance? i.e sync. speed, stability, throughput, etc. I might try one if it does.

No. Tomato doesn't support ADSL. You'll probably have to bridge the ADSL connection using another router/modem.

I see, I'm rather confused. :confused:

How would the Linksys/Tomato combination help to:

Thanks for the info guys, I think if it comes to it I'll go for the Billion one, may as well get a top quality router which will likely hold it's value quite well if I move to a better connected property in a year's time.
