Hi,

I'm after a new router, but have a couple of things it needs to do well:

- Share the internet connection either with something automated, or a decent QoS system
- Work well with a rubbishy line

We are on a middle-of-nowhere 512Kbps connection and are quite lucky to be connected at all.

With our current Linksys WAG320N if somebody downloads something nobody else will be able to use the internet due to the slowness. The router will basically give 100% of the bandwidth to whoever asks for it.

This never happened on our old Linksys or even older BT Homehub. When somebody was downloading, rather than slowing every else down to a complete stand still it would slow the download down and allow others on.

I don't really mind what router we get, as long as it can 'share' an internet connection properly either automatically or through decent QoS.

Thanks.

I'd keep the WAG320N for the ADSL (as you've paid money for it you may as well use it) and just bridge it to something with ethernet WAN. Probably a linksys WRT-something with DDWRT or Tomato firmware. Which gives you loads of features including decent QoS and traffic shaping.

WRT54GL are pretty cheap now, might go for one of them considering the pretty good range of custom firmware for them. Tomato looks excellent!
