I'm about to start a course at college on Saturdays and need something to lug around a folder or 2 and some books, pencils etc.
My old Uni bag has just about fallen apart, so I need a new one.
Price isn't too much of a problem as long as it's not made of gold etc (up to £30 is fine!- I don't really know how much bags cost these days)

So what do you guys/gals recommend?

If you want a back that will last then get a timberland, probably over your budget though.

I've been through all the usual school bags and after having a few timberland bags they are solid. I generally get 1year+ out of a back that i would use day in day out for college and carrying a back full of tools around on my bike. Only reason i had to get a new one was because the zip broke. God a bass back and it lasted well but the zip didnt just break the whole zip basically came apart.

My mate has that one and its outlasted my own timberland and this bass one.

Next time you go grocery shopping keep hold of the free bags they give you.

Sure you'll look ***** using a carrier for your uni books but you will have an extra £25 to spend on beer, and you can replace it for free when it wears out.

TK MaXX is what you want for rucksacks. They have good brands (Nike, Jansport amongst others) and are about £15 compared to the extortion in many other stores.

I used to work in Blacks, who are in the same company as Millets, and do you know how much eurohike stuff got returned? It was an insane amount, its all faulty or something.

Its the same with "stormshield" the own brand Blacks stuff, all rubbish.
I've been working in Millets for two years and have seen 1 eurohike rucksack returned... berghaus actually have had more faults in my experience.. especially those cheap freeflow bags.

What is funny is when someone returned something from Speedo :p
For those that don't know: Millets, Blacks, Freespirit, O'neil, Speedo + a few others are all part of the same group, so if you buy something from one store, you can return it to any other.

I just remember the christmas vividly, or more precisely the period after christmas. So much eurohike rubbish returned because it broke instantly.
Must have been coincidence hehe
Columbia + Craghoppers + Dark Chocolate Covered Kendal Mint Cake = Win

Oh god, that Kendal Mint Cake is lush!

Love that.
Yep it sure is :D but the new company Millets is buying from has given them a different taste :( They now taste quite like chocolate digestives :/

No.

All the own brand stuff is shocking, seriously bad and taking the company in completely the wrong direction. They should provide quality stuff to proper outdoors people, not try and and get chavs in.

the only good stuff is the expensive gear.

The only stuff I bought whilst there was,

Mountain Equipment down sleeping bag (dreamcatcher 500) - £150. Light, warm, small, etc.

berghaus arete 45 litre bag - £50ish. Used it for 3 day expos etc.

MSR pocket rocket. Awesome little burner.

ration pack things, dehydrated ftl. But really light and the chocolate one is actually good.

electolite drink powder stuff, gives people an insane lift.

spirit 200 tent, £270 i think. just pure win. 2.5ish k or something. nothing really.

one of those TNF down coats, they are also pure win.
You do know Columbia and Craghoppers aren't their own brand?
Best Brands in Sections

Clothing: Craghoppers, Columbia, North Face and Berghaus
Footwear: Columbia, Merrel, Berghaus (Explorer 5s... mmmmm)
Tents: Eurohike + Highpoint
Equipment: All makes have good and bad stuff
Rucksacks and Bags: Eurohike and Karrimor

Thats in my opinion judging by customer feedback, amount of returns, and also personal experience in using the products.

edit: Please bear in mind Blacks and Millets sell a lot of different brands. Yes, Blacks is more for extreme professionals etc but, even if I worked in Blacks and not Millets, I would still choose to goto Millets for my stuff.
People who live near me, feel free to come see me for pro advice (Thusday
+ Saturday - Gravesend, Friday - Maidstone ;))
