Well it is GD

Isn't that just one of those things with a blueish daylight bulb in it?

Yep I've heard some cheap ones just have a tinted bulb which doesn't work. It has to be the correct wavelength and even then they don't get close to sunlight intensity. But still help.
There was an interestihpng segment on one of James mays program's recently about light and human bodies and how we totally ***** up are bodies ATM. They're researching how to change the light throughout the day especially with computer screens.

Not strictly what the OP is asking for, but on a related note I find 'f.lux' software really helpful if I am working on the compuer late at night or for prolonged periods.

It adjusts the 'warmth' of your screen according to the sunlight in relation to your geographical location - I've found since using it I am much less 'wired' when retiring from computer to bed, and can get to sleep much easier :)

I use flux its pretty good, i put it on the slow timer so i dont really notice the transition.

I spend about 12hours a day on a PC during the week, I'll give this a go and see if it helps, often find I need a hour or so brake from the PC if using it late in the day before bed.

Like uknowist I use the blend transition - the timings are excellent and I can even see the transitions match the sunset outside (weather dependent).

I'm not how it will apply to gaming, but for application work it is superb.

*note: if using colour dependent programs i.e. photoshop then be careful as the tool changes warmths/contrasts etc. However, there is a useful feature where you can right click the system tray and 'disable for an hour' if you are 'shopping :)
