Hi GD

I'm going to ask for one of these as a birthday gift in September and would appreciate some recommendations.

I live for the summer, most stuff I do is outside and as the light levels drop I really do feel my mood drop with it.

I need a rechargeable one ideally controllable by a phone via Bluetooth.

Ideally £50 or less but if a good one that ticks all the boxes is more then I'll pay for it and get the OH to put some money towards it.

I've done some searching but struggling to find one that is rechargeable, phone connectable and has the min 10k lumens required.

Any recommendations?

So I've been doing some research and apparently the light has to be 10,000 lumens.

My DeWalt LED DIY work light is about 500 lumens and it's really bright.

10,000 lumens would burn out your retinas!

I dunno, I might ask for a different gift and experiment sitting there in the morning eating cornflakes with my work light next to me :)

It’s not lumens you are looking for, but lux. There is a difference.
You also need to check how close to the lamp you need to be to get the 10k lux.
Some have to be very close.
So 10k lux on it’s own is only part of what you need to check.

We had a girl at work called light box Lil. She had a SAD light about 6 inches from her face at all times during winter. It seemed to work well. Why do you need it phone controlled if it has to be so close to you?

Love our Lumie alarm clock. Really great way to wake up in the mornings, especially in winter. Don’t have a desk to sit at long enough to benefit from a desktop one. Wouldn’t bother with a rechargeable device as you’re not going to be walking around with it I’m guessing? I’m not sure what benefit Bluetooth would have on this device really.

I have an older Philips one, have to say that I find waking up with one much better than the suddenness of sound alarms. I tend to wake in what feels like a natural way before the sounder goes off, it brings light up gently from about half an hour before the alarm is due and then does a pulsing noise, there is a another in the house that does bird noises and that one is a newer version of the same.
It doesn't get that bright at all and I don't think it needs too, I think mine is set at level 6 of what its capable of doing and that's more than bright enough, I can get out of bed and get dressed with the light it provides.

Much better in the winter, I wake at 5.45am and its really good for me. Light makes no difference this time of year obviously but as the days get shorter its perfect.

One of the engineers I work with has this one:

£40 and he has it at his desk..

Personally it seems just like a warm LED lamp, but he says he thinks it helps..

You won't have any eyelids at 10,000 lumens may as well stare at it

I don't have a mains socket by the bed and thought it would be good to have it by the bed to wake up and then take downstairs for breakfast.

Did you end up getting one? And if so which, and do you recommend it?
