This is what i need ;)

~£3.5k
Less than 3 years old
Low VED Bracket
Low insurance group
Economical
and most importantly "financeable" (please dont suggest saving, bank loans, etc - its going to have to go on a short term car finance package).
Oh, and not a fiesta zetec ;)

Now this is the sort of car i've really never ever thought of, let alone bought. But I need someone that i can buzz around in locally. Its never going to go on a long journey really.

I currently drive a quite 'warm' S13 which is dire economy wise, rubbish in the wet and I really dont like leaving it anywhere. Its more of a track toy and i'd like to keep it that way so that leaves me with needing something small and crap :D

Also open to suggestions on where to buy it from (south wales/bristol). Assume i'm going to need a dealer of some sort to get it on finance?

So you want a small, economical, low insurance group, reliable car for £3.5k? Yup, plenty of those.

But it cant be any older than a 54 plate?

This could prove tricky and most of the answers are going to be cheap Korean junk I'm afraid.

Dump the age requirement and get a Fiesta 1.25 Zetec or something. Oh, I've just noticed you dont want one of those. Err... Seat Ibiza?

Why do you have to get on on finance? For this sort of car I'd rather a £1k Fiesta than a £3.5k financed up Deawoo Matiz or whatever it is.

well i suppose older than 3 years is possible, but the finance rates seem to hike for no apparent reason.

Reason i dont want a fiesta zetec is its really the chavs car of choice down here (aside from paxo's with lexus lights...)

Matters to me - hence why i asked for one single car to be ommited. Never mind...

I just do lol, wasnt part of the question! :)

All cheap small cars are chav cars becuase they are cheap to buy and insure. The ones that are not are usually dire anyway, ie Daewoo Matiz.

The Fiesta is your best choice for a £3.5k car but you could look at alternatives. Nothing French stands out, but you could look at the Skoda Fabia as a value-packed alternative.

But really, taking out finance to buy a £3.5k small car whilst being concerned with low tax is really rather daft. If you cant afford to just buy a car at this price point you really would be better buying something for 500 quid to a grand. You'd be suprised at the sort of cheap budget cars you can get that are actually half decent.

How the hell is the age of the car going to effect the finance rate?

Quite - it's going to make no difference. The finance rate is concerned with two things, how much the car costs to buy and how creditworthy you are. I can't stress enough how un-neccesary it is to take out car finance to buy a cheap runabout.

Why do you want to spend so much on a shopping car. Pick up something small and economical for sub 1k.

Is there a reason you can't get a bank loan? A unsecured fixed rate bank loan will be a lot cheaper than car finance.

What do you want in the car. Other than economical. Is there any actual requirements?

fiesta is a good shopping car, so what if chavs have them, aslong as its not a corsa then all is good.

im with fox, i'd rather have a banger then a financed car.

The chav thing I find confusing. Ok, for some people, image is important in a car. But if image is important in a car why are you buying a £3.5k runabout.

Well if you don't want a chav car, dump the age criteria and get a 1.0 litre Yaris for 2k. Instead you'll be driving a gay car :p

I barely ever see Chaved up Fiesta's these day's so I'm not sure where that's coming from.

Infact i've seen more chaved up Focus's

Just buy a Fiesta 1.25 they scream value.

very late model, top spec 306? Cant be more than a couple of grand for the 2litre hdi which has ace economy. Or a newer 206 if it really has to be 3.5k.

Again, you're in rubbish territory for a small shopping cart. Korea or ultra pov-spec euro-box. Owning a 200sx you will loathe something that poor, i know i did!

Just look on autotrader, pistonheads and in the evening post motor ads (thisissouthwales.co.uk), for cars within the distance and price you want and make a choice. Plenty of focus' albeit maybe a little older than you want.

And a stock focus or fiesta doesn't scream chav anyway, its only those who try to tart it up that make it look chav-ish.

And as far as finance goes you know its a bad choice, but if you have to go that way just visit all the dealers and see what cars they have - there a load of them grouped together over swansea industrial estate near the liberty stadium, just pop in and have a look around.

Chavs get their hands on, and subsequently ruin, most types of car these days. The only "chav" cars to avoid are the Saxo and Corsa, on the grounds that they are rubbish, Fiesta will do you fine
