Spec me a socket set.

Just buy yourself a decent socket set now, sort out the money once you get paid - if it's a one off, then surely it won't be an issue? As others have said, it's potentially money wasted otherwise.

They all look Rubbish to me, A socket set ain't worth ******* on unless it has hexagonal socket bits. Six sided bits grip a bolt instead of chewing it to bits like those recommended above.
I'd rather buy a decent wrench & the 6 sided sockets in the sizes I needed than any of the junk above.

That would depend what you want to work on, how confined and tight it is.

I've got a wide range of 6 and 12 sided sockets, i've never rounded a bolt or nut head using a 12 sided socket and i've done just about every job possible on a car.

Buy good quality 12 sided socket and they won't wear or split with time, provided you don't try and undo a hubnut or a crank pully with one then you will be fine.

Ones being linked aren't decent ones though are they, You know that as well as I do. :p

Most of them are rubbish, but i feel the smaller halfords pro set should be fine provided he doesn't go mad!

I must admit though, if somethnig isn't looking easy to shift or is right infront of my face i would go right for the 6 sided impact sockets.

No doubt that a 12 sided is going to round a nut before a 6.

I really like the machinemart, Clarke pro sets. Lifetime warranty too. 6 pt. I just buy the metric sockets

Ive owned the Clarke 3/8 metric set for about four years. Ive got three socket sets, they do their own specific jobs ie i wouldnt be putting a 3/8 socket on an adaptor to use on an impact gun, so tools arnt being used for things theyre not intended for. The 3/8 set works very well, but youd have to be special if you wanted to put a breaker bar on it, with a length of scaffold pole and hope it survived.

Saying that I once did a clutch change on an 1.8t with just that socket set, imo it is very versatile, very robust and brilliant value

I wouldn't bother with Halfords pro stuff, my experience of them is they break pretty easily and when you take it back they tell you the part you broke isn't covered by the warranty.
