Hi guys,

I'm after my first ever suit, it will be used at my formal events at uni and hopefully job interviews after that! So only occasional use really. Would like something of a decent quality but obviously this will be impacted by my budget. After something for around £150 all in (so jacket, shirt, trousers and tie)

I've no real clue where to get it from, I was thinking Next maybe?

Cheers :)

If you have a Next outlet store near you then some of these can be okay, but I appear to be between sizes in them.

I have a £99 Moss suit that isn't particularly nice but it's passable at least and doesn't look like it's made of bacofoil. I bought it in an emergency when I got to Chester and realised I'd not brought a suit with me for a day out with customers. It just so happened that it fit me well (one of the most important parts about choosing a suit) so I've put it into rotation with my others.

M&S have a decent range but some of the styles can be a bit stuffy. The quality is alright.

If you can save a bit more then get a Charles Tyrwhitt suit for about £230, it really is worth the extra, though you will pay more on top of that for a shirt and tie. £150 is a really stingy budget for the whole lot unless you are looking for a generic black tie dinner suit which absolutely will not be suitable for interviews!

A mate turned up at a wedding a few weeks back in a very dapper three piece navy suit. He got it from Topman. I was in shock how nice it is and the stitching and lining looked really good for the money.

Debenhams have a great selection at great prices, both professional and occasional styles. Next are pretty crud for what you pay (shirts are decent though), m&s are good but styles are a bit tame. You should pop into a suit specialist store and see if they have anything on offer. Unless you're in a rush it's always best to wait for a sale when it comes to suits :)

M&S, or Slaters. Ask one of the sales assistants and they'll measure you up and make sure you buy the right size.

Cheers, will pop into M&S on Friday.

I don't really want to spend more than £150 on it, especially as I'm only in my first year at uni so formal job interviews are a while away. In that case then, whilst I remain a poor student perhaps I should have this suit purely for formal events at uni and then purchase another better quality suit after graduation for interviews and the like.

Will check out Topman, cheers :)

Don't need the suit until the start of June so I am hoping that a decent sale will pop up before then. Will check out Debenhams and have a look at local suit specialists, cheers :)

If it isn't urgent hold off a while and visit Moss Bros when they have a sale on, they usually have a fair few suits for about that budget. I have had several suits from there and they are happy to help and have always treated me well. I would also suggest House of Fraser during sales as you can sometimes get a fairly good suit for quite cheap, I bought 2 suits recently for a job for about £300 for the pair if not less from there.

I've just bought a suit from Next for £46, quality is good enough, and fitting is perfect.

Get a quality shirt from Charles Tyrwhitt and it would finish it off nicely. ASOS currently have a sale on their shoes, make sure you get leather, I've seen some reduced to £28.

Provided you get a suit that fits you properly, you won't look cheap or nasty.

I have a Moss Bros fairly local to me which is handy, hopefully they'll have a sale in the next month or so :)

i bought a new suit the other day, not worn properly yet.

At debenhams you can get trousers and jacket for £99, then if on a budget get a school shirt from tesco :)

Here's the one I got

Excellent, I get student discount at ASOS as well :D

Consider a suit specced. :D

At that budget M&S is probably the best option... a lot of the rest will likely be down right cheap and nasty - at least with M&S you can probably get a basic half-canvas suit made with decent fabric.
