Hello gents, i am currently looking to rebuild my system i have ruffly 1000 pounds to spend on it and i will not need a new Graphics card as of yet as my 7800 is still working great also i have a case. im looking for a duo2 based system with the 2gig of high end ram. ive priced a couple my self but i was wondering whats the best cpu, motherboard and ram combo?? also how much life do you think a top spec imac has in it although i hate the mac's for the lack of customiseation and hands on"ness". i am tempted to go mac for work.

thanks ive just looked at that thread but i was looking at spending 1000 on a mobo, cpu and ram is it worth busting out on the faster duo2 or could i get a 2.0mhz one ad make it proform just as got as the 2.4 .. ? ive heard they reach 2.8 to 3.0 with ease..?
 
Hi sorry i was not to exactly ,

im after a motherboard, cpu, psu and ram for around 800 - 1000. mainly hi res graphic design so ram is the most important thing to me 2nd to computeing power. i dont want to rush out and by top of the line duo2 when i hear i could get the same proformance from the lower spect chips.

If you just want those parts then I'd opt for a setup like this, you have a good motherboard, a CPU that should reach 3.2ghz with ease and has 4mb cache, solid Ram that is capable of major overclocking with a great PSU and the cooler is one of the best air coolers. :)

//edit the lower chips (6300 and 6400) can often reach similar speeds in terms of pure overclocking but they still don't have the 4mb L2 cache which is worth roughly 400mhz if memory serves, it isn't a huge difference possibly but it may still count.

just on the ram ive never use cellshock and also what are the new 1000mhz + chips like are they just a gimic or are they worth the extra? i agree with the cpu and motherbored and the rest of the stuff. i just realy want to be sure i get the best ram. thanks for your reply .. haha ye ye , c-rayz walz is not bad man . although i kinda had this name before i knew of him.. weird = / hehe. :) (well at lest the cray-z bit : P)
