Hi,

It's been a while since I built a system and I've got the itch to get back into it. It's primarily going to be used for graphics design/gaming/movies. I'm not wanting to spend big £££ so my budget is £800. I need a full system, this includes monitor too. I'd like something I can overclock and a Intel CPU, I would also like something that allows me to upgrade over time.

Can you guys help?

Thanks.

I have no idea how to add the basket into a message so heres a pic.

Thanks for the reply, that looks pretty good. Isn't the i5 3750 ivybridge better then the i5 2500 sandy bridge?

At stock yes but most people don't keep their K series at stock, generally speaking between the 2500K/3570K whichever's cheaper is the best option as they OC to as near as makes no difference the same performance (SB will clock a bit higher due to IB heat but IB will make up for it with IPC). Unless you specifically need a feature of IB ofc.

In that case your best option really is socket 2011 and a i7 3820, this will give you the option to upgrade to a SB-E hexcore when they drop in price or to an IB-E CPU when they are released next year. If you go socket 1155 then the 3570K/3770K is the best you will be bale to do without changing the motherboard when Haswell launches in 4-6 months time.

I have an OS, Windows 7 that I can reuse, keyboard/mouse too. I need a Monitor as I sold mine last year since I moved to a laptop.

I like most of what you suggested to the OP but that moniter , really ?

YOUR BASKET
1 x Benq XL2420T 24" TRUE 120Hz 3D Vision 2.0 Widescreen LED Monitor - Black/Red £299.99
Total : £311.99 (includes shipping : £10.00).

This is the best all around monitor I have come across after much research,
anyway if the OP can afford this one or save for longer , it would be worth it.
but if he can't afford it ,he should go with the other moniter you suggested. BenQ seem like a good brand. :)

Nice specs guys, will have to investigate further. I want to ask, in terms of processing power, what are the AMD FX chips like? They're reasonably priced and have 8core technology?

Sorry for the n00bish questions, been a long while since I had a PC. SKT754 being my last one. :o

Ask away mate , were here to help. :)
I would personalty go with Intel myself, they just seem to be better over all.

In terms of gaming/rendering videos/images how much of a gap is their between the AMD/Intel CPU's? I'm not after e-peen performance where it'll be overkill for anything I do. Yet I do want the upgradeability so I can change components in the long run.
