My 6 D cell maglite is never used as it just doesn't have the beam the size of it suggests it should have!

It's not for the faint hearted... It's pretty similar to that egg cooking one in the link.

I got a 5D mag, ordered some li-ion batteries which are 3.7v per cell. 5 x 3.7 = ~ 18v. I also ordered a soft start circuit and voltage limiter as the OSRAM IRC bulb is only rated for 12v. :cool: It stops the bulb blowing when you turn it on.

I also replaced the lens as reflector as this thing kicks out so much heat that anything plastic near the head would just melt! :D I used an Alu reflector and a high temp glass lens.

It's bloody bright, during a power cut it lit up the room better than my mains lights! :eek:

You lot will overclock bloody anything won't you? :p

Very happy with my Surefire G2 currently, but I always feel the urge to buy a new torch periodically for some reason. Those Fenix look temping, and I have just been paid today.......
