Hello Im gonna go on holiday for a while and need a torch for power cuts (which are frequent) and for night time use.

Willing to spend upto £30-40.

Dad says maglite, but are LED ones better these days?

Dads know best. 4 x D Maglite. Can't beat it.

The trouble is that so many of the 'youth of today' are into hair gel and pre-shave product and the like so aren't strong enough to carry that sort of torch and have to resort to girly LED stuff :)

to be fair you cant beat it
they are awesome and if smoeone says otherwise they should get hit by one lol there solid those leds ones can be **** and if you are wlkaing down a dark ally using a light its nice to know if someone jumps out you can atleast knowck out with the torch lol

interesting. maglite sounds good, can whack it on sum1s head if the need arises.

£20 too, half the price of the fenix and i dont need to order it from the web.

but fenix looks sexy and compact..

I have a 3D Maglite and have owned AAs and AAA Minis and they are solid units. Probably some of the best craftsmanship you will get in a consumer torch.

LEDs are great though if for nothing else but their lower power consumption. I can run my 3D Mag dry in no time at all. Maglite sell LED versions of thier models now (Some, not all)

LED Lenser Range, by far better and more compact than a 4d mag light. I have a 4D mag light and after using the torch with new decent batteries fades very quickly.

Get a Fenix torch.

Fenix P3D is my torch of choice. Great light and the battery life has been ok for me, though i am probably a very light user.

The batteries in the D maglites last for ages, I forget how long ago I changed them in mine and it's still incredibly bright. They don't exactly use a lot of power.

Ignore the girls in here, get a man's torch. That's if you're man enough of course :D

Laser torch

will melt plastic, fry egs, ect, 4100 lumins.

That screams inefficiency to me. I would rather my torch uses energy to produce more light than heat. I appreciate that one is a byproduct of the other, but using the fact that the torch runs hot enough to cook eggs is hardly a selling point for me.

In my exploring bag I generally carry six torches. A 3D Maglite, two MiniMaglites (2AA), and three Tesco Value torches (3 for £2). I can't fault either of the Maglites (though they aren't the brightest torches on Earth). The cheapie torches are surprisingly bright, and I don't mind if they get lost or damaged. Yes, they run hot (certainly hot enough to melt plastic - it requires swapping the standard cam and plastic lens out for metal and glass ones respectively, but it's much brighter and longer lasting :)

candlepowerforums.com offer some good modifications to Maglites, making a manly torch much (much) brighter using a couple of P4 LEDs (see here : http://www.seoulsemicon.com/en/product/prd/zpowerLEDp4.asp).

Oh that's very interesting, I'd like to know exactly what to buy and where to buy it from to fit in my trust Maglite as pictured above.

I've got the 6D maglight.

It sits in the door pocket of my car but is almostt he whole lenght of the damned door.
I'm going to feel sorry for the first person to try and car jack me. :D

I realised the 4d was a bit too big and bulky, bought led lenser p7 with a p3 for £45. couldnt resist the slimline profile and sexiness..

/awaits feeks onslaught... :p
