Spec me a tripod

I bought the Red Snapper RS-284/RSH-12 combo and I think it is superb, for the money it is absolutely top notch :) - However you said about carting it round NZ but I think you may find it too cumbersome...

I bought mine with an eye to taking it round the lake district but if i'm honest its just too heavy and awkward to carry for any length of time, but I think this would be the case unless you spend lots of money, and even then you're not going to get a solid-as-a-rock tripod that will fold up and fit in your camera bag :p

I read somewhere that there are two types of tripod, those that are easy to carry, and good ones... i think this is bang on ;)

If you have a camera bag it will probably have a loop/velcro straps to fit the tripod to to make it easier to carry.

Also, pics :D

pics of what bud?

I have a lowepro fastpack 200 but I don't think there's anything (loop/strap) to help with the carrying of a tripod?

Ok, the budget is flexible (and quite healthy!) but then any 1kg tripod/head combo is also going to be pretty flexible with a DSLR and lens on it in my opinion... :)

I own a Red Snapper carbon tripod, and it's a beautiful bit of kit, very well put together and stiff as a stiff thing. It does have different vibration properties compared to alu, and even with a heavy DSLR/Lens combo fitted is very quick to settle when you knock one of the legs. Very quick delivery from the site mentioned. Some of the big Gitzo stuff is obviously almost immovable in comparison, but then they weigh a ton and cost a great deal more too. The laws of physics very much apply to tripods I'm afraid...

With a decent head on the carbon or alu Red Snapper (I use a gimbal type on mine but that weighs more than the tripod), like the Red Snapper ball head you'd be all set, just not within your 1kg weight limit.

not much point in taking a photo of my actual one as it looks exactly like this :)

I went with the 284 which is the 4 section version which folds up a bit smaller than the 283 but isn't quite as tall at full extension...

It really is a lot of tripod for the money in my opinion ;) - but like I said, I don't think i'd want to carry it around for long...

Would i be right in saying the more expensive legs dont come with a bag eg the manfrotto - can add another extra 30 quid to the bill.....

According to the descriptions all of the Red Snapper leg options come with the bag/case, as well as the optional shorter center column.

Edit: Ah I see, misread. Thought you were talking about the more expensive RS legs.

he only used manfrotto as an example.

055XPROB Manfrotto legs are very good. My bro uses them with 804 3-way head. Anyone able to recommend a good video head for those legs for a small handheld camera?
