I have a PC on the farm that keeps randomly restarting, after much test I have come to the conclusion that it the mains power at fault. Reckon some sort of ups is needed, it have sort out brownout, power surges, and in general a dirty supply (we have a dozen or more 3.5kw motors which i think is causing the problem)

Any idea how long you want/need to cover and what the power draw of the PC is? Looks like you can get some smallish (400W, 800VA) unit for around £55.

Also worth considering if you want it to be able to tell the PC to shutdown on a low battery state too.

You've got two types, ones that switch over when the mains fails, and another is where it's constantly going through the battery filtering it.

Something to do with clean sinewave versus standby type.

I'd assume the inline regulator type is the way to go from the OP description.

I really like my Cyberpower Pure Sinewave 1500VA which is a few years old now. It's got a few 4 plug gang mains in it, and has been fine for my gaming PC, work laptop, 2nd PC, 2 screens (1 oled), TV, speakers, sky box, and wifi mesh node, phone chargers, etc. Even have my wife's straighteners plugged into one of the gangs as my setup is in the bedroom (work from home).

Never had an issue. If I only have the gaming PC and stuff on and game, it'll last 5 mins. Idling game PC while working (using the 2 screens), it'll last 20mins or so.

I wouldn't connect speakers, curling tongs or phone chargers into a UPS, kinda pointless.

I agree, but the ups is plugged into a single wall socket, then 4 x 4 mains extension gangs are plugged into that and site in the cable tray of my sit/stand desk. These are the only spare sockets around, so the UPS it is :D

To really give proper advise you’d need to know the load requirements, voltage level and line frequency during the brown outs.

Also, if you’re unlucky enough to be located in one of the potential grid voltage reduction test zones, you might also want to keep that in mind too.
