Spec me a Van?

Thanks for the replies. Will have a look into a Transporter or equivalent.

Not quite a van, but does any one have any experience of/know anything about Nissan Navaras or Mitsubishi L200s? I figure one of them may be suitable...

L200s are heavy on juice. But yet again perfect for mountain bikes.. Im looking into a Double Cab pickup for myself instead of a van. Chuck bikes in the back and all your kit on the back seats.. Perfect!

I can't imagine an L200 being too much worse than a van though. :)

Any idea how they are for reliability and service costs?

I have been looking at some used ones, but they do seem quite expenisive for age/mileage, but I guess you are getting a lot of vehicle.

I believe the Navaras urinates on the L200 from a great height! Although the L200 seem to be "cooler" so sell well.

A work mate has just bought a Nissan Tino for biking. You can take the seats out and actually buy mounts for the bikes to sit in in the back. Perfect sure how many you'll fit in though.

I drove a VW Transporter T28 130bhp 2.5litre the other day (first time driving a van) and I was very impressed with the level of refinement. Aircon, leccy windows and a six speed box! And it didnt half go when you put your foot down at 30mph!

Yeah my dad drives a 310 long wheelbase Sprinter and its got just under 200,000 on the clock and still going strong. The door handles and hinges are the weak points of these vans though. They have gone on all the sprinters hes owned. Plus the side lock can be opened in 5 seconds with a screwdriver .

Haha, no kidding. We've just gotten rid of our trusty Sprinter after many years of hard work. It had done similar miles and never failed us, we were on our third back door though :D

Ours was a bit numb without a turbo (308D, long wheelbase), but was a good workhorse. Don't tell anyone, but we had it carrying over 3 ton once :o

One thing I noticed was that the windscreen wipers were bloody brilliant! Bit of strange thing to comment on, but they really did the job in a world where wipers are generally rubbish!

As for vans for leisure doing the occasional bit of work, I'd go with something comfortable like a Kangoo. The 100bhp dCi versions are pretty nippy! Mind you, load space might be an issue.

Im pretty sure it was worse than the Transit i had... I looked at the Mazda style Double Cab pickup and liked it.. But remember they are not the best inside.. They feel cheap (the mazda) as they are just workhorses.
